Default Hamster snuggles

I've had my 8 month hammy for 2 months now, we've bonded well and he comes out of his cage into my hand almost nightly for playtime. He's a very late riser, often not getting up until after 11pm. I always wait until he's been to the potty, had a drink and had something to eat before he comes out.

Wherever we are, wether it's in the bath, a play pen or on my bed (actually it's especially on my bed) he gets himself all comfortable and just lies there, he's always bright eyes and bushy tailed, but is he wanting to sleep? Whenever I put him on my bed he makes a beeline for where the bedcover and the pillow is and he gets comfy in the gap. When he's in a playpen and I'm cleaning his cage he often just sits and watches me rather than explore.

I have him out for a maximum of 15 minutes before he goes back in his cage, and as I say he's a late riser song can't imagine he's tired? He LOVES his silent spinner and flying saucer and spends the majority of the night on these, I don't know of that makes a difference of not. I feel like he's a super active hamster at night (at least from what I hear on his wheels!) but not so much when he's out. Just wondered what you guys thought about him, and is it normal?

Some hams do just enjoy being calm with a human sometimes

He sounds adorable . Try putting his wheel or saucer on the bed or in the playpen. Sometime open space intimidates them. Put a few tubes or hidey's too.

He has tunnels and his saucer when he's out on playtime, I wondered if he didn't like the open but he navigates the bed without any worries! I orginally bought the saucer just for play times as I didn't think I'd be able to fit a 12inch wheel and a 12inch saucer in his cage but they fit fine

He is adorable thank you! It means to much to me that he's comfortable with me as when I picked him up from his old owner she said he was really nervous and she couldn't tame him. I thought he might just be an untameable hamster but I haven't done anything out of the ordinary taming wise, we just went at Nibbler's pace

How does he get on with a 12 inch wheel? I'm considering getting one for my hamster for his birthday lol.

He loves it! He's a small hammy and I actually thought he wouldn't be able to run on it but he has no bother at all! He uses the flying saucer more at the minute which I didn't think would happen so I'm glad I got him both!

It took me ages to decide on a wheel, I was going to get a wodent wheel but I'm so glad I went with the spinner

Both hams are quite happy to go into the ball/wheel on the bed during playtime and use it as a sofa, where they can lie down and watch what's going on. Like DrK said, I think being in the open makes them keep exploring to find hidey places. Once they have a wheel to recline in, they mellow a bit after running and just watch the world go by. It's a relief when a hammy is always Go!Go!GO! heh.....

my hamster usually sleeps once the place she goes is familiar. she usually digs a new place rearranges it until she feels safe and comfortable. then next time she goes there she seems content to sit and. relax. just like when we decorate a room or move into a new house were mad busy arranging it when we first move in then once it's finished we usually start to relax

That's really cute! I was cleaning out my guinea pigs yesterday, Nibbler woke up and just sat watching me from his cage. I love his little personality!
