Default Storing food in his wee corner

My hamster, Scamp, has done this several times in probably the last year. Sometimes when I've given him some special (And sometimes not so special) he will run off and empty his pouch into his wee corner, which is really gross. I'm assuming he does this to ensure that no one touches it (not that anyone ever does). Has anyone had a hamster that has done this before?

I guess it's normal. Oscar and Nibbles do it all the time

It's normal, it's their way of ensuring you don't steal it

Margo does it occasionally, particularly with special treats, like you said I always remove it as soon as I see it. She seems to have caught on that that's a bad storage spot, and will usually put them elsewhere now.

Hamsters can do some gross things sometimes. It's a bit like me going home tonight and storing my beer in the toilet lol.

Mine does the opposite - wees in a food pot - even though there is no food in it any more because I got a different food pot and moved it - ha! Work that one out Charlie! I think as NiceCrocs said, you can train them to do different things. I have a stupid platform with an inset food bowl in a corner - that just happens to be Charlie's favourite wee corner. So I got him a different food bowl, put it somewhere else and put his potty train in that corner. It worked for a while but sometimes he moves the potty tray and wees in the old food bowl, lol. He obviously thinks it is a toilet. Maybe you could fine a snug little hideaway thing like a coconut shell and put it in a hidden corner somewhere and move his hoard into it and he might get the message.

Putting their treats in their pee corner never stops me from STEALING their stash It does however stop me from eating it....
