Sufficient Unto Each Day....
Is the Silliness Therein.....
A thread for the daily oddities that make you realize you have NO idea what really goes on in their wee brains.
Today's silly moment was when Ziggy came down from his second floor....which requireds he climb down to a ramp on his house midway between cage floor and second floor.
To help him get from there to the bottom, I found a perfect sized plastic ramp, so he doesn't have to do two plops to get down one full floor. He uses the ramp, but for some reason? (It's clear plastic?) he got his front paws on it, and when his back paws stepped on it, it was as if he forgot it was there....a sensation of OMIGOD, something just stepped behind me! And? He shot like a line drive golf ball into his wheel nest.
A very graceful , one step , two step, thr----------YOWZA! RUN!!!!!!
Never saw him move so fast. Except I think he may have done it yesterday as well.
I can only guess the reason for the hairy streak today......

Re: Sufficient Unto Each Day....
I know what's going on in humfry's brain right now! I am getting the evil eye because tonight I did his first complete clean out. Discovered a couple of days ago he had stopped using his toilet jar so I knew things must be getting yuk down in his burrow. Pooh! Stinky food stash - all jettisoned! He's now got fresh Fitch ( with a few handfuls of the cleanest I emptied out to retain a sense of "home". Is he grateful? Not a bit. He's got fresh bedding, fresh food, a piece of apple, a few treats (aka peace offerings) & all he's doing is glaring at me with a " HOW COULD YOU!" expression! If looks could kill I'd be terminal.

Re: Sufficient Unto Each Day....
Humfry, Hahahahahahahaha! Ingrate of a hamster. Ah, well, at least he'll get over it, until next time.
Skeever, just to say, I've had both Ted E. Bear and Nuutmeg be racing on their wheels and not realize I came into the room. Well, when they realized I was there they flew off their wheels, banged into the front of the cage and flew behind the wheels. Different hamsters, different days...exact same reaction. It could hurt a persons feelings. LOL

When I walk in and Colby is on his wheel, he stops, stares, and we just look a eachother for about 10 seconds. Then I leave and say, "Nice talkin' to ya Colbs." Then we repeat the next day.

Re: Sufficient Unto Each Day....
LOL.
Jumping up and down to come out and play, lemme out, lemme out, lemme out!!!
When he comes out and sees a treat, he scarfs the treat in his cheeks and runs back to the cage: Lemme in , lemme in , lemme in!
So he can put it with his stash. Then it's ....oh....wait, lemme out, lemme out, lemme out!
Sigh.

Re: Sufficient Unto Each Day....
I look forward to the day when humfry asks to come out! Still avoiding me like the plague, so I still have to scoop him out under protest.
After last nights deep clean he wrecked the joint overnight! Chewed a leg off his willow stick bridge (right down to the wire) & basically left the bin looking like the aftermath of a teenage rave! Wondering who was joining him.
So this morning I cleaned out the basement play bin & reattached the upper floor - of course he came out to investigate & stomped around before heading back to bed.
How do you teach a bolshy hamster social skills?

He's a communist?
As for teaching them, I find a tiny whip and chair come in handy. Hard to find but I found them in the Barbie (tm) Fifty Shades of Gray Malibu Home Set.....
Keep in mind Ziggy is not coming out to see me. He is coming out to play. I am mere transportation. Breaks my heart. Someday he'll have hamsters of his own and he'll know .....

Re: Sufficient Unto Each Day....
humf doesn't even want to play. Popped him in his playpen whilst I did the housework & despite tunnels/tubes, seesaws, wheel, boxes to climb in & on, bin jar of substrate to dig in all he did was hunch up in a corner what you not understanding? I don't wanna do this playing & socialising stuff! pft!!!
Unless he appears earlier tonight than of late he won't be seeing me. I need sleep!
I am controlled by 150gm of furry short sighted fluff!
