Default "You're not there..."

So Celeste has taken to doing something I've never seen a ham do before. Whenever I get close to her cage, she ducks behind her wheel, closes her eyes, sticks her head down and looks like she might be thinking something like "You're not there, you're not there" as if she is a scared little kid hiding under the bedsheets at night.

I know she is under a lot of stress right now, what with being taken from her mom and siblings at 3 weeks of age and all, but is this normal for a ham to do given the circumstances?

Awwwww.

To be honest, I truly have never seen/heard of that before. Maybe if you put a towel or blanket halfway over her cage, she might be better?? I don't even know what to say, Im really sorry this was probably no help

My baby Syrian does exactly the same, Holly!

So...I know what you mean. You described it perfectly!!

Mine was taken from his sibs at 3 or 4 weeks old and he's been the most frightened hamster ever.

I'll go to his cage...see he's out...but when he sees me, he freezes to the spot, puts his head down and kinda fakes 'being asleep'.....like he just doesn't want to know me at all and is terrified and lonely....

It's upsetting for me as I love him and have no idea what to do. Never had a hamster like this.

My hamster does the same type of things! He will come up to me when I come in the room and come to the doors and bite the bars until I let him out. But he's still VERY jumpy and he freezers a lot as if he's trying to get away from me. He's very inquisitive but is timid still!
