Ham asleep on wheel
Hi again
One of my Chinese dwarfs has been falling asleep on his wheel last night and tonight. He is very active in the early hours and seems normal apart from falling asleep on his wheel.
Could it be due to the english hot weather right now?
Thanks Dave

Re: Ham asleep on wheel
Hi Kryill
He has water and some cucumber and is not in direct sun but it has been hot here yesterday and today. He is awake now and running around again.
Do you have any other ideas why hams might do that?

Re: Ham asleep on wheel
Some do it because they're daft Others do it because they're young (and daft) and the odd nutter just runs themselves to exhaustion unfortunately

Re: Ham asleep on wheel
I think daft is a good word for most hamsters lol (And you can shorten my username as you like to save typing it all out if you want to by the way)

Re: Ham asleep on wheel
You may wanna give him a cool ceramic tile or mug to lay on if the heat is a factor, but some hamsters just like snoozing in the wheel xP especially if you have a semi-enclosed one, like a Wodent wheel or trixie wheel.

Re: Ham asleep on wheel
Mine naps in her wheel or just uses it as a chin rest whilst napping, she'll rest her head where she feels like.
I'd pin that down to normal behaviour.

Re: Ham asleep on wheel
Nibbler naps in his almost every night. Often he stops running to have a wash and dozes off still sat up right (which on more than one occasion has resulted in his head slowly drooping and doing a forward roll off his wheel - which woke him up quickly!). More often he explicitly gets in to have a power nap instead of going into his bed for a 'proper sleep'.
This past week, with the hot weather, he's done it more. He also has a large ceramic mug that he's been sleeping in during the day (on-and-off). He's been wandering between that and his usual bed, even dragging some toilet roll to loosely block the entrance of the mug when he in it.

Re: Ham asleep on wheel
I think some of them like it because it's a nice hard surface out in the open. I know I wouldn't want to sleep in subtrate all the time lol.
