Progress with taming Gimli!

Hey everyone (:

As some may know from previous thread since I got her, Gimli has been very shy and skittish since we got her almost 2 months ago.

She'd run away when we put our hand in the cage and I never actually touched her or held her at all. Well we've been trying really hard lately and we managed to get her to take treats from our fingers if we held them out to her, tho hands where off limits and she ran when she saw us.

My boyfriend did this a day ago and today I tried it too; laying my hand out with some meal worms on my palm and it took her ages to leave her nest but eventually she stepped out, grabbed a worm and ate it next to my hand, then she went to sit on my hand and happily finished off her meal worms on my palm then was happy to carry on sitting, then walk up and down my arm, then moved from hand to hand and seemed so calm when she was doing it! I could lift my hand away from the cage too without her jumping off!

I'm so happy I'm making progress with her, it sounds small but to me it means so much and I'm so glad she's starting to not be scared of me (:

Just thought I'd share this with you guys along with a picture of her on my hand!

That's great!! I find it encouraging because I just got a Chinese hamster and he won't come to me but has bitten broccoli while I was holding it. Congrats and I hope she keeps moving forward!

Ahh good work! I'm taming my syrian at the moment and every little accomplishment is so rewarding keep at it!

Thanks so much It's really tough isn't it trying to tame them! I was sure it would never happen but just give them time and don't give up on them and they will eventually get there (:

Thanks, I just started so I have barely seen him at all. lol He mostly hides in the bedding.

I imagine it does feel great to have a closer connection with her!

Well done to you!! I'm taming my Syrian at the moment and I was over the the moon when she let me stroke her back hahaha Keep up the work and I'm sure she will be tame in no time!!!xx

Esmy she was like that too to start with, always hiding away we barely saw her tbh but patience is key! I hope it works out for your boy I'm sure it will it just takes some time (:

That's great progress! That's what we did with Java. Luckily our boys were pretty tame when we got them

Thanks a lot (: we have a little boy too which we got at the same time as Gimli an he was pretty take right from the start too!
