Default Litter Training

I decided to litter train Mr Darcy and i couldnt believe how easy it was!

(it's an old bird bath with the room removed, lol )

I basically put his pee corner into the tray and he uses it all the time now, even when it gets moved around the cage.

Was anyone elses hamster as easy to train as this?

It's amazing how easy it it! Jasper pretty much trained himself, I just put some of his 'peed-on' woodshavings in the tray, and he taught himself!

Clever Mr Darcy
So glad he's now got the hang of it and will make it alot easier for you to clean out his cage

It is pretty easy, they tend to use it a few times and then you can't stop them, my babies even love it so much they like to sleep (and have play fights!) in the potty

If you can get a mother to potty train she will teach her babies to use it we find. Good idea with the bird bath. Our Lola keeps moving her corner everytime we move her potty in there. She just will not use it Minx!

I've never been able to train a dwarf they often end up sleeping in it but syrians seem to like using them.

My winter white boy used the potty from the first day but the girl...no way. She is weeing in every corner but not in the one with the potty. what can i do to teach her? I should put two potties in the cage? usually the male takes a sand bath first so I thought that she just didn't wanted to get in the potty cause of his smell. Any suggestions?

Some hamsters just wont use the potty and there is not much you can do if they choose not to. We find if the mother uses it the litter will too. Dwarfies always seem to wee all over the place we find and only use the sand as a bath.

Mine decided they would like to use sand baths as their loos. unfortunatly they still roll around in the sand Dispite most pairs having 4 sand baths in their cages
