Default Taming Autumn

Today and tonight, I started taming Autumn. I put her in the bath, and just been talking to her and stroking her. She's so fast. When I tried picking her up she squeaked a lot at me. Bless her.
She did take a treat from my fingers, but also tried to bite my fingers a lot to.
Think she enjoyed having a run around in the bath.
She has also had 10 mins in a ball.

P.S I didn't sit in the bath with her.

I will do the same tomorrow afternoon. As we out tomorrow night.

Any other tips?

I think ive got lucky with cruella as shes walking onto my hand and trying to get up my arm already, she doesn't seem to be phased by anything.

Keep at it and hopefully she will come around although not all hammys will be super friendly, wolverine liked to be left alone, you could hold him but once he had enough you let him go lol.

I always start the process by introducing my hand in the cage and letting them sniff etc and take food and then gradually trying to tempt them onto my hand and take it from there. Maybe try it slow rather than going in head first in the bath? XD (no pun intended xD)

If she seems nervous then take each stage slowly. It sounds like it's too soon to be picking her up so would it be possible to let her walk straight from her cage into her ball? That way you could take her into the bath using the ball and also let her have a run around in the ball after the session. After letting her get used to her cage and your voice the next step is really to just let her get used to the smell of your hand in the cage or in the bath and feed some treats from your palm if possible. Encourage her to climb on your hand but let her jump straight off if she wants to. This involves a lot of patience! This means she learns your hands are nothing to be afraid of and you won't make her do anything unpleasant for her. If she's squeaking and wriggling when you do pick her up then she's not happy. Not all hams like handwalking straight away so you can build up to this when she goes into your hand voluntarily. Hope this helps, I've had hamsters before but never one as scared and skittish as my current one so feel like I'm really learning the taming process from scratch! Share any successes and tips you may find along the way!

Thank you both for the tips?
If any one got more tips I'd like to hear them.
I will take it slower with her. I forget how hard it is to tame them. Never had a easy one yet. But once tame then you for get about all the hard work.
She did seem to like the ball, once she worked out how to use it.

I think it will be best to take it slower with her, it depends if she was ever handled much as a pup and at the garden centre. I started off by seeing if cruella would come onto my hand of her own accord, I didn't realise she would be so enthusiastic about it though lol.

Wow. Autumn won't do that she runs off or bites me.
I've given Autumn toilet paper with my scent on it, and she's took it to her bed

Hi char,
I do not think that I will be much help to you, as pancake was one of the easy ones on the first day he was able to be handled, but he did try to bite me once or twice but i wore gloves so i didn't mind. but when my neighbours went on holiday i looked after their pets including a long haired female Syrian called strawberry and i managed to tame her in a week, her family did not really pay attention to her that much because she always bit them. however when i wore gloves gave her some food and let her sniff my hand(with the gloves on) and let her get used to me for about 5 minutes. and then i left closed her cage door. and came back in the morning where i then gave her more water and checked her cage when she woke up she climbed up onto my fingers were i lifted her up and held her close. where then she happily snuggled up in about 4 days i was able to hold her with no gloves needed. i was quite calm around her which also helped i think... . are you being calm with her all the time, try not to get frustrated when she does not walk onto your hand. as they can sense your emotions so if you are calm she will be calm if you are frustrated she will get frustrated and so on.
r.i.p strawberry (i found her dead in her cage after going bowling with my neighbours they didn't tell their 6 year old daughter until the next morning) have fun on the rainbow xxx
good luck char, sorry if this does not help you. me and pancake will watch out for updates.

Thank you. That's a great help. I am calm with her. I am going to give it another go this afternoon as we out this evening.
As she's new I don't want to leave her, now silly is that. Only going to be out 4-5 hours lol.
I will keep you updated on how we do.
