Re: Hams peeing in their Silent Spinners
I've just seen this thread after wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.
My boys dont have silent spinners... but they do pee on their flying saucers. The pee is then being thrown off the wheel when they run and splattering the sides of their tank.
Charming young gentlemen they are. :s

Re: Hams peeing in their Silent Spinners
Now that I've got little Pipkin robo, I've noticed she does it as well... -.-
What is it about silent spinners?? Fin has never peed on his wheels, or any of my other hamsters, but the first time I fork out and buy two SS, both of the little toads who have them pee all over them.
I disinfect them during spot cleans and soak the pair in the sink with hot soapy water once a week, but SS have little gaps where the halves fit together where gunk builds up. It's gross!
It must just be these wheels! Todd didn't do it when he had a savic rolly, only since he's had his nice expensive one!

Re: Hams peeing in their Silent Spinners
Panda is potty trained and he pees in his custom 100% solid surface wheel. I dunno why they have to pee in wheels.

Re: Hams peeing in their Silent Spinners
I never have this problem with Patches or Ted E. Bear. Not with any of my other Syrians either. This only happens with my little hybrids, Toffee & Almond. I gave it up and I clean them every morning. I find that if I let it go the cage smells and I don't like that. It doesn't take very long so I don't mind cleaning the wheels. They (Toffee & Almond) are maybe 1/3 the size of my Syrians and at least twice the work LOL.
