Weeing!
My Syrian, Lola, has a really annoying habit of digging right down to the base of her Ikea cage, and weeing on the wood! No matter how much I try and move the wood shavings over the spot, and try and train her to go in a jar or a dish, she just digs back down, or chooses another spot to dig in! Has anyone got any advice? I'm starting to think I might be better off switching cages so she's in a plastic base, as it doesn't seem to matter how much I plastikote it, its still staining and going horrible!

Re: Weeing!
My hamster is the same (although hes in a plastic cage) but its starting to stain the corner. Ive just purchased a corner toilet with no roof to put in his wee corner and hopefully that will help.

Re: Weeing!
For plastic cages, if you wash them each clean you the dried wee should build up, you can get a little knife and soak it in boiling water to loosen it...dried pee corners are a niggle of mine when you buy 2nd hand cages! If it still wont come off some white vinegar can shift it.
I wouldnt have thought a wood base would be practical. have you tried jars in all corners? x

Re: Weeing!
I agree with kyrill, try putting a litter tray / sand bath in the corner- my syrians use sand baths as toilets and love to dig in them

Re: Weeing!
Its not just the corners, its random spots all around the cage! Her woodshavings are really deep, and its like as soon as I find a spot, she picks another one just to annoy me! Ive tried jars, dishes, putting soiled bedding in them, but nothing seems to work! I've completely plastikoted the base, and with any of my other hams, it wouldnt be a problem!

Re: Weeing!
Er... Plastic sheeting? Like a tough bin bag cut up or something? You'd have problems if she chewed it but besides that...

Re: Weeing!
Yeah, thats what I'd be worried about. I'm in the middle of repainting her cage at the moment, so shes back in her old cage while its sorted! I don't like her being back in a slightly smaller cage, but I cant keep repainting the other one every couple months or so!

Re: Weeing!
Good luck finding an answer, I think I've heard of someone tiling the floor of a ham cage if that'd help?
