Default Sleeping in the sand bath!

My new hammy Darwin doesn't go into any of his hidey houses, instead he has set up a nest in every corner of the cage and has now took some of his bedding into the sand bath and is sleeping there now!

He spends a lot of time in the bath; if he's somewhere else in the cage and I run my hands through the sand, he'll come back to the bath to tell me off. He's also using it as a potty which is why I have taken to posting this! Is it normal for him to keep changing his nesting area?

Our rescue ham, Coco, switches between three different corners constantly. Two are under his shelf, proper nests with loads of nesting material, but his favourite place to sleep and groom is just an open corner of the cage beside his wheel. I love being able to see him curled up asleep there but he looks so exposed. He had no nesting material in his last home, so I think he got used to sleeping completely uncovered. He also has a house but just uses it to climb on.

Darwin is very similar, one of his nests is beside his wheel! He does look adorable in the sand bath because it's right at the front of the cage and I can see his eyes closed The bottom layer is quite dark because of the shelves, so I'm thinking he prefers an open nesting area at the bottom layer, I have a large tent like thing there that he never uses so I'm thinking of removing that so he has a bit more room on the bottom floor.

Totas normal according to my syrian hamster She changes use of her sand jar weekly basis from digging box to restaurant to bedroom to living room/hang out area to storage area ... Name it and she had it all and she has 4 different little sleeping area since she moved into her bigger house. I used to panic but my hammy is very happy and gentle girl so I think some hamsters are just like that maybe.
