Default Burrowing

As you know I've stripped Patricks Hamster Heaven and just put in toys, bath, wheel etc and, because the green shelf has now gone, lots more Fitch has been added to the substrate. Well, he's been going mad in there, so much so I wonder if he can get out! For ages now all I can hear from underneath is scratching and Fitch is being tossed around and his green hut toppled over! I'd love to know more about their burrowing activities, will he be making tunnels under there? I keep thinking he is going to pop his head out as all I see is a mound of Fitch getting higher and higher!!!

Some hams do make tunnels. Our dwarf hams do it a lot more than the syrians but for us its perfectly normal to start searching for a ham by finding a burrow entrance and trying to follow the burrow - only problem is how often the burrows split off into two tunnels, we can't follow both at once lol

LOL made the mistake of 'looking' for him yesterday and he went a bit mad! Sped off towards his wheel and started running, so I must have really frightened him. His cage is a state at the moment with all his digging and scratching bless him. He's now settled off to sleep but he was having a good half hour dig in there earlier!! He really does love the deeper substrate.

Ah... We only do it if we really need to. Like I dug the Bumbleham girls out of an underground nest to take Geiger to the vet last week. Fortunately those three are so tolerant and happy that I could dig them out for the sake of it and they'd not mind lol

Bless em! Was my mistake totally, was actually looking for any perishable food at the same time and he woke with a start. You learn from your mistakes and I won't be doing that again!!

LOL Jesselle, we almost had a fright tonight, we were gently pulling back the bedding, and he wasn't anywhere to be found!! We were in a bit of a panic, but then his little nose poked out, in yet another spot!!
