Random freakout?
Weird. So, tonight I was playing with mary on my bed, letting her run across my hands as usual, nothing out of the ordinary. Then, she jumped off my hands, jumped into the corner of my blanket, while making a sound I can only describe as a squeaky dog toy? She's never done this before. She sat and looked horrified for a moment and got verrrrrry skittish, so I put her back, and she's acting normal. Anything to make of this?

Re: Random freakout?
Was there a loud noise or anything? Loud as in loud for a little hammie? Any sudden movements? These are the only things that tend to freak my hams out. I'm sure Mary is fine, she probabaly just heard something she didn't recognise and was a little shocked. Hams can be nervous little things sometimes

Re: Random freakout?
There was an alarm going off in another room, but it'd been going off. Probably what it was, I've noticed she doesn't mind music unless it comes out of shrill low quality speakers. The little audiophile...Thanks.

Re: Random freakout?
Minnie used to make that noise sometimes, though she never freaked out. I noticed she tended to do it when she was in heat.
Hamsters do freak out on occasion, I wouldn't worry about it too much. When he was younger Hjalmar sometimes used to randomly freak out for basically no reason when I opened his cage door for him to come out. He'd all of a sudden start bouncing off the sides of the cage and then leap out. Luckily he'd always land on my computer chair, look around confusedly and then let me pick him up. he hasn't done that for a long time but it used to concern me a little. It's not like I was making any sudden movements, he would be fine one moment and then suddenly zip around like he'd had an electric shock the next.

Re: Random freakout?
Yeah Mary does that sometimes in her cage, but it's usually in response to something. Tonight she's moving across my hands extra quickly and being a total ramrod in her cage, I'll never know what to make of these things lol. So very fickle.
