Hamster blocking water
A couple months ago I bought a new hamster cage with a weird water system. The water is in a different tube, and my hamster has started blocking it with his bedding (wood shavings). 3 days ago I taped hiss old water system on, and he still blocks it. There is no other way to give him water because everything is blocked. I tried giving him a water bowl, but he just put his bedding on that also. It's summer and since it's hot I don't want him to get dehydrated and die . I was wondering if anyone could help me?

Re: Hamster blocking water
Is he in a tank style cage or a cage with bars?
If he's in one with bars, you can get a bowl that clips onto the side of the cage. I think it's called a coop cup. You can put it high enough to stop him filling it with bedding.
The only other thing I can think of is to put a water bowl on top of something, like a little shelf.
He might still dump some pouched bedding in there but at least he won't be able to kick it all in

Re: Hamster blocking water
Perhaps you could take a picture of your hamster's water system and their habitat, so people on here can tell what you mean an help you a little more

Re: Hamster blocking water
That is the new water kit. The actual water bottle comes off, and there is a hole where i taped on my old water system, which is just a plain one. As you can see in the picture, it is a tube which is where he puts the bedding which makes it so that he doesn't get water.

Re: Hamster blocking water
Honestly, I'd trust him. Hamsters can dig through their own blockades to get to the essentials if they need to. If his food was the other side of it he'd not starve, he'd just get it when you were asleep.

Yeah, hams can be sneaky little things, our dwarves don't usually come out until we've gone to bed
