New guy is odd....
Sephiroth my new hamster is odd he doesn't use the dust bath or wheel, he just sleeps and yes I have sat up and watched him, he just doesn't seem to do anything but eat, drink and sleep.
Is this typical male behaviour? I am a bit worried as Buttons my female she runs on her wheel ALOT, shes very active and well he is not.
He is also very thin I have ordered treats for him, I am also considering a trip to the vets.

Re: New guy is odd....
how long have you had him? it can take a while for hamsters to adjust to their new environment . my newest hamster speedy never used his wheel or sand bath for almost 2 weeks but now he loves them
i had a male syrian a few years ago and he never used his sandbath or wheel at all but he seemed happy enough with all of his toys. i think it can depend on the hamster

Re: New guy is odd....
He likely didn't have many toys when you rescued him so it is all new too him and he may come to like them better in time. As long as he seems perky and happy when he is out and about I wouldn't worry too much. He will still be settling in and establishing a routine. Not all hammies take to wheels and prefer the lounging life! Mulligan is a bit like that

Re: New guy is odd....
Dinah never uses her wheel, as far as I can tell. I've got her a flying saucer in case she preferred that, but so far it's also got the cold shoulder. When I had Seb he used to run on his wheel ALL night, but Dinah's more into burrowing.

well his wheel takes up a fair bit of room, if he wont use it I am tempted to take it out.

Sephiroth is a product of what shinra did to him he wasn't born evil, when I played the game it seemed the only real bad guy was Hojo
