Its already been stated above that Syrian hamsters are solitary and the Chinese hamsters are now considered to be the same. However Roborovski's dwarfs, Campbell's dwarfs and winter white dwarfs do quite well in pairs (though WWs seem to have a few more falling outs than the other two species). I actually have a robo male who is doing very badly alone and so I am getting a young male pup to see if they get along and it cheers him up! I have recently introduced two separate pair of adult female robos successfully (After lots of research and consideration) and it has really changed the behaviour of the older two who have become a lot more lively and happy with the influence of the younger two. Which is proof for me that taking a chance with pairs of dwarfs is never a bad thing it just needs to be done carefully.

I just want to ask Sunny (and not in a mean way or anything) but what was the meaning behind the post? I mean we all know which hamsters can and cant live together, what the signs of fighting are and when to separate and can ask any questions that we need answering but this post is going to disapear to the back pages where people probably wont read it after this week so I dont really understand it? If I am being completely daft though do tell me

(Tsk yet another long post from me )

Sunny, I know I've already posted but I'm with Erin, about the meaning of the thread.
this is a hamster forum, most of us know about hamsters.
We all know that syrians have to live by themselves, and if someone new comes on and dosen't know this then we tell them
I'm not getting at you, But I am saying that maybe you can say how you feel without having to start a thread thats content has been talked over many times.
I'm not sure were I'm going with this but I would like to say that the vast majority of us do know lot about hamsters and would be happy to help you with any problems you may have.
But telling us things we already know isn't really helping the forum.

I looked through the forum and I didn't find a similar thread; that's why I decided to start mine.

There're lots of newcomers on this forum besides the older users. They may not know yet that keeping few hamsters in a cage can be dangerous for the hammies. I think it's important to realize the possible risk. That's why I started this thread and put *WARNING* before the title.

That was one of the first things I saw when I joined this forum - other than cage sizes there's a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I feel that maybe your warnings are out of place on a hamster enthusiasts forums - newcomers join to learn more about their hamsters, so it's very likely that they have already done enough research to know whether or not to house their hamsters together
It's a nice thought though!

With some things people with have different opinions. But on this subject 99% will agree.
I dont think warning was needed unless you were trying to start a debate.

Warning should be used in thread titles if the post contains material that may upset other members. I will close this thread now as the main isue has been discussed x
