When will my hamster "mellow out"
I have a 3 - 3 1/2 month old Syrian named Crixus. When I got him he was a shy little guy who wouldn't even take food from me.
Now I can easily scoop him in his igloo and handle him. I take him out every day and give him a treat when he's all done training. He's NEVER bitten me but he still isn't too keen on beind held. He'll run all over my hands and body but won't actually sit still. I know some hammies mellow out as they get older...at what age does this usually happen (if at all?). In the past I've only adopted aduly hammies and they were all big slugs that would just sit in my hand and cuddle.
He's a sweet guy but I just wish I could "cuddle" him....

Some just aren't cuddlers so you may be out of luck. Of the 4 hams I have only 1 will sit still for short periods of time.

Re: When will my hamster "mellow out"
Some hamsters are just hyper. Like people, they have their own little personalities. My syrian, Bob, is completely tame and will wander onto your hand when you open the door or sit at the door and demand to be let out, aha :')
He's completely hyper though, crawling everywhere and refusing to sit still. It would be nice if I could just give him a cuddle but it's part of his personality and he wouldn't be the same, amazingly inquisitive genius of a hamster otherwise.

Some hamsters aren't cuddly types! Some will mellow with time, but that time can be anything from 1 month to 2 years!

Re: When will my hamster "mellow out"
Poppy wasn't a cuddly hamster until she was around 8 months old. So there is hope for you yet with Crixus. By the way I love his name. From Spartacus by any chance?

I've had my two for almost three months and I think they may be about 4/5 months old. No cuddlyness as of yet!

Luna is almost 11 months now and still hyper as ever, she's just one of those hams that don't like cuddles.

Re: When will my hamster "mellow out"
I love the name Crixus for your hammy Spartacus is one of my favorite shows!
I hope Crixus will settle down for you, but like everyone has said that may never happen. Of my 5 hamsters, 3 have been cuddlers (my 2 syrians and one of my robos) but Sandy wasn't always interested. She'd cuddle on her terms, but mostly was hyper. She was under 1 year though.
