Question Attention chewing?

Bert starts creating havoc for hours during the morning while im trying to sleep. He's scratching to get out of his cage, he chewing his water bottle, he chewed the rubber rings for ferplast tubes, hes making a mess of his cage and not even had him for a week yet.

He has toys, chews, those treat hanging sticks and let him run in the ball. He gets alot of attention like i'll say hello to him and clap him several times to get use to me even though he keeps trying to bite me when i put my palm out. hes 11 weeks now and trying to tame him seems hard. was easy with gizmo as he was roughly same weeks when we got him.

I thought at first he was unsettled but hes driving me nuts as i have to get up early for college. Any advice?

Im assuming the hamster is in your bedroom then. Strange question but do you have all lights off at night?

When I had a hamster in my room 5 or so years ago, he would bite like crazy if I ever fell asleep with the light on.

Rory chews on the metal bit of his water bottle too and it drives me nuts!

The digging... I've gotten past the digging by giving Rory a sand bath, he digs in that, turns around when he reaches the bottom and digs again!

Bob bites on his cage like a mad thing when he wants to come out and play. He loves exporing and so I think he just wants a bigger cage. I'm getting him a cage extension for christmas. Maybe you could try something similair with your hammy? What cage has he got?

Gloria and Sandy were terrible for this! Unfortunately I found not much stopped them.... I used to get up with Gloria at 3 am and let her run in the ball while I studied before class. Other than that I have found just ignoring them will help them to *eventually* realize that I won't get up to play with them....but it takes a while for them to get the hint. Persistent buggers!

fred was like this! even chewing on an alexander repeatedly only for attention, you walk over and he would walk to the door and wait to come out.
he was also cage teritorial
if bert is the same try using a tube, cup or ball to walk into, then get them out, i find them far less likely to bite outside the cage, once they are fine with you handling them outside (normaly on the bed for me) then you can try getting them to walk on your hand or picking them up, fred still today tutters if i put my hand in the cage, but he is the only one of mine i know will never bite me again, i can turn him over and blow a rasberry on his belly and he wouldnt bite xD hes a silly boy

He's been put downstairs in the kitchen as its warm at night in there so i could sleep. I've noticed during the weekend he hasnt been chewing on it anymore so im just hoping hes being wanting out at night.
He's getting use to us but my mum likes to pick him up and hold him and he seems fine till he squeaks and launches himself across the room like last night..not fun trying to catch him when they've gone under a couch D:
