Re: Yet another "How to train" thread
No problem petting him while he ate tonight. He also allows me up scoop him up in his igloo and pet him.
I tried to lift him up with my hands though and he jumped the 1" back onto the shavings.

Re: Yet another "How to train" thread
That's to be expected. I like to imagine that the first time being picked up it must be similar to the feeling we humans get when flying. So the first time is usually a bit strange and scary for some. You could try placing your hand in front of the igloo when you tip it to put him back into the cage. That way he walks across your hand to get to the cage and sees that it's not so scary.

Re: Yet another "How to train" thread
Gillzy I did just that! He hates stepping on my skin haha.
So I did the first tub session tonight. Put down the towel, sat in the tub, brought in his igloo. He slowly stepped out and began to crawl around. He didn't seem too phased...there were a few times he put his front feet up on my leg.
I had no trouble actually petting him but again if I tried to pick him up he'd hop away.
So I guess thats a decent first session. I do like the fact that he's not a biter!

Re: Yet another "How to train" thread
It's always a plus. I reckon he'll be a snuggle monster in no time! I'm enjoying the updates. ^_^ It's now all about the trust bond and the confidence he'll develop as he grows up a wee bit.
You've done a fab job so far!

Re: Yet another "How to train" thread
Just had another breakthrough. In today's tub session he freely climbed on my legs - he even nibbled on a few of my hairs! :O
But I put my arms along side my legs and he crawled on my arms! Then he even walked over my hand and I was able to "walk" him by switching from hand to hand. He is still a little nervous but much better.
So now I have a hamster everyone can pet and if you're lucky he'll "run" on your hand haha!

Re: Yet another "How to train" thread
I wouldnt say love yet haha. As soon as he feels my hand "wrap" him he tries to get away FAST! If its on his terms he seems ok with it though.
Is it ok to do two tub sessions a night? He doesnt seem too bothered by the ordeal and as soon as I put him back in the tank I give him treats.

Re: Yet another "How to train" thread
As long as he has plenty of access to food and water every 15-30mins, and seems fine you could have him out all night.
I know my Sen would love to be out all night! And although Sen is very tame and not skittish around me, she doesn't like being held. And we've been together for 10 months. Just so you are prepared that you may not have a cuddle monster
