Constantly Moving the Hamster Cage from Room to Room-is this stressful? - Page 2

Izu and Tobi can sleep through a lot. My music is going off in my house all the time so they aren't bothered by that at all. There's three people here usually, wandering in and out of room, they don't care.

I can even open their cages and they won't wake up which is good for hiding treats in their cages. XD

Only way to get them up is shaking the macocannon jar I keep their food in, they've learnt that means come to the side of the cage so I can give you some treats. XD

I'm afraid there's no where really quiet in our flat-the bedroom if i close the door is quieter than being left in the lounge with the tv on full blast all day-thanks to my noisy other half & my son.
If the bedroom door wasnt closed the bedroom is just as noisy- as living in a small flat there isnt much places i can put the cage-therefore when the hamster wakes at night i put her back into the lounge over night & then back into the bedroom by day.
My other half keeps telling me to just leave the cage in the lounge all the time so the animal gets used to noise-but i'm worried that she could be unduly stressed by us noisy family-hence the peeing in her nest-on the wheel & platforms etc & being so nervy & jumpy and difficult to get tame.

I dont know what to do for the best-whether to find her a nice quiet home-or just carry on putting her cage in bedroom when we get up in morning & then back in our lounge when she awakes and for overnight as cannot sleep with the hamster in the bedroom with us at night as she makes a racket with her Roly Jumbo wheel & cage biting etc.

You cant continue to move the cage around. Sorry but this should have been something you thought about before getting her - I live in a small flat, Luna is in our bedroom but me and my other half put up with the noise she makes.

If I were you I would keep her in the bedroom and attempt to sort out the noise that she makes. Get a new wheel (they arent expensive) and try to stop her bar chewing. Bar chewing can be down to a small cage - what size cage is she in? You can try putting cardboard through the gaps where she chews or even replace the cage to one without bars. You can often get really cheap tanks (usually its ones that leak water) on ebay or places like gumtree.

Or you could have a word with your other half and son - there isnt any need to have a loud TV, all it will do is damage your own hearing and disturb the neighbours. Having a TV blaring (sp?) out will just add to your own stress as well. Put your foot down - its your home too.

I would try getting her used to life in the lounge :/ All my boys live in the lounge. I love having them their because that is where we spend our time and so we get most contact with them. Even our last nervous rescue rat got used to life in a room with a tv and a stereo. Of course we are considerate that we aren't blaring out the volume but I'm pretty sure my neighbours would be a little miffed about that.
We always tame with nothing on so they are in a nice quiet environment but from my experience they get used to the noise and just sleep through it.
Greyjoy looked around and woke when he first heard the tv but after two days he doesn't bat an eyelid just sleeps straight on through.

If you were to give her LOADS of bedding and substrate, she could burrow down into it and that'd be pretty much sound proof (and cosy) for her. My OH used to play the telly pretty loudly in the days when he was off, and Sen learnt to sleep through it, and she has very astute hearing.

And you could always ask to keep the telly to a medium level for a few days to get her used to SOME noise in the living room, then increase this back to the normal levels your OH and son use.

Luna does that if I wake her up during the day with the hoover or something - she'll bury herself completely in wood shavings, I can just imagine what she's thinking
