Sonic Screams once more.....
But only at my husband! Myself and Aaron chat away to him through the bars and he plods over to see us and sniff out any treats we may have. He was out in the bath last night and we were playing with hiim - all was well.
WELL. Hubby came down and said "um i thought that hamster was ok now" i said he was and hadn't screamed for ages. "I hate to destroy your record but he was doing chicken impressions at me again" came the sheepish reply.
He said all he did was talk to him but that set him off. Is it normal for this sort of thing? Is it just the case that he recognises me and my son and not the tone of voice of my hubby? When we first got him and i started talking to him gently he did the screaming but now when he hears my voice he comes over to it.

Re: Sonic Screams once more.....
It could be the tone, my timid hamster sesame comes out when she hears my mums tone of voice, I think she prefers it, and associates it with food falling from the sky...
But yeah, maybe Sonic just needs to be used to people. I remember my blind hamster Alfie bit me when my friend was over, and I think it was the sound of her voice (she was being a bit more high pitched than I am) but he comes to my voice also..

Re: Sonic Screams once more.....
I was wondering if it was maybe because my hubbies voice would have been deeper so maybe sounded more threatening? He doesn't really have anything to do with the small pets he was a stranger really to sonic anyway. It's quite amusing really as he hadn't screamed since that first day and one word from hubby and all hell breaks loose!

It is quite possible that the new voice alarmed sonic. I'm sure if you hubby practises talking to him it should calm down
Bless him though x

Does your husband interact with Sonic alot? If not it's probably still new to him and he's a bit wary. Just tell him to keep at it and maybe talk to Sonic whilst giving him treats, so he associates the voice with nice things?

Re: Sonic Screams once more.....
i wonder what he said to sonic ... maybe he was offended lol
as all the others have said, probably just used to a softer higher tone and your hubs deeper voice is a little unfamiliar.

LOL maybe!!
To be honest i doubt he will spend the time getting used to him anyway. It's myself and my son who look after him and sort him out - he only decided to show a bit of interest when he went to the loo and sonic was playing in the bath

Re: Sonic Screams once more.....
lol!! My very vocal WW is like that... he won't scream for ages and then he will suddenly get angry by being kept up with noises he doesn't like, or he will get annoyed with something in his cage or his bedding and start screaming. It's pretty normal... I think it's because my hamster is quite timid and scared easily. He just seems to be more threatened because deep inside he's a huge softy and knows it's a weakness in his natural habitat. :P
* Might your husband have peered over him causing a shadow over him, or maybe it was too sudden of a movement?

Re: Sonic Screams once more.....
I think Ruby is scared of my dad! She is usually pretty calm, when im talking to her or my mum is but I had Ruby out and my dad started talking to me, she sat up listening then tried to jump out of my hands! Luckily she was small enough for me to quickly put my hands round her and put her back into her cage, I don't know what I would do now! If Ruby ever hears my dad talking, she is frozen and ears up!
Maybe when you have Sonic out tell your hubby to talk gently to sonic and maybe offer him something nice while he is talking? I would do that but my dad wont

Re: Sonic Screams once more.....
Thanks for the advice, and sharing of scared hamster stories lol! I think my hubby is like your dad Amy! He wont spend the time - not because he dislikes him but just because he has no interest or inclination in doing it! He doesn't "need" to get Sonic to like him as he rarely sees or interacts with him. He quite likes the animals but doesn't have the passion that we do lol
