Lemon Juice
Is lemon Juice safe to use on the bars?
Millies driving me loopy with her bar chewing! I know she is only doing it for attention because it stops when i go to bed.
I read another post of bar chewing problems and im sure someone suggested it. Just checking it is safe to use???
Ive tryed ignoring her when she does it but i dont want her to hurt herself or break her teeth. Her fur round her mouth goes all dented and wet looking - looks like shes been in a pub fight and someones slashed her both sides of her cheeks.
She gets out everynight in her ball and for a run around on my lap but its when you put her back in her cage for a rest and to get a drink etc if needed she just chews chews chews. She does eventually give up and goes to her bed like she's in a wee huff.

Re: Lemon Juice
No definately not. Citrus is not good for hammys
What size cage is she in? Does she have enough to do?
Luna chews the bars because she wants attention, the only thing that stops her doing it for a while is threading cardboard through the bars where she chews.

Re: Lemon Juice
The Cambridge isnt big enough IMO. Even the RSPCA recommended cage size is bigger...
But then again, some people think its OK...

Re: Lemon Juice
They wont try to lick it or anything because they hate it. My friend put citrus juice on an area her hammy was chewing and it stopped it straight away. They don't like it so there isn't any harm in it.

Re: Lemon Juice
Some might lick it and then decide they don't like it so personally i wouldn't risk it, and imo also i dont think the Cambridge is big enough, not after getting the ruffy 2 and still i think thats still too small!
Some hamsters just do it out of habit other than boredem* I don't think theres anything you can do really..

Re: Lemon Juice
Most hamsters chew the bars of their cage out of boredom. The cage sounds like it is not big enough for most hamster hobbyists to consider a safe habitat. You should try making a bin cage. Bins come in a variety of sizes, and you can give your hamster plenty of space without having any ventilation spots low enough for them to chew and make noise.
