Its nothing to do with her liking it. It's to do with it basically being poison to hamsters.

Stacey - I can vouch for what Soufle said about hamsters chewing the bars because they like it. Luna lives in a Hamster Heaven but still bar chews, mostly for attention like yours do!

Thanks for the advice . I won't be giving Furby any more pieces of orange. I'm glad when I did give her a piece, it was small and not very often. I love this forum and the great information everyone provides.

i tryed the bath thing, put out all her toys that was used for play time (we had a box for her but she can now climb out of it) and apart from jumping up the sides trying to get out (which was funny) she really enjoyed it. You dont realise what fast wee things they are! lol

I bought a bitter apple spray to try from p@h, she still chews the bars but not as much. I dont think i'll use it again, spec as she is still doing it. I am hoping when i eventually get her wodent wheel, whenever they come back in stock, it does distract her and gives her something enjoyable to do.

In a way its sweet she wants my attention coz she dosent give 2 hoots when my bf talks to her, she ignores him but when she hears me she climbs up the bars to the top level and waits for me to talk to her. Total mummys girl

its not that it is "toxic" as such, their digestive system is not designed to cope with citric acids, they do not come acros anything like citrus fruit in their natural habitat, the citric acid can cause all sorts of tummy upsets and lead to diariah and even ulcers, which can lead to death if not treated

you can use bitter apple spray on the bars to deter chewing, one of my hamsters actually sits and licks that off though
