Default feeling more positive--- thanks 4 all yur help

Just wanted to say thanks to each and every one of you who have helped me with advice regarding my hammies and also for all the awwww cute comments, keep them coming, chompy loves each and every one.

Shes seems to have settled in really well. Shes responds 9 times out of 10 to my voice and will watch me from her cage.

If i put my hand in her cage, she sniffs (some times bites) and runs away.
So i gpt her into her ball and she walked out onto my hand and DIDN'T bite (wooooooooooo)

Ive also sat in the bath and let her run about me - she seemd to really love it, but when i got out and seemed to be towering above her - she didn't like it

Anyway, so thanks to each and every one of you, you all fab

From Adele (delbert) and Chompy xx

that's great news.
My little lady is the friendliest thing outside the cage, but she's very defensive inside the cage, I'm lucky I made her a front opening cage and she can just walk out of it and into my hand.
I used a tube to get her out before.

They love being out of the cage though

Awww sounds like she's really starting to respond to you now. Fantastic news! I think a lot of girls (especially) seem to be quite cage defensive, but if you can scoop them out as you have done with the ball, and then handle them, they seem fine. When you feel comfortable to do so, try popping her back in her cage in your hands ... kind of reverse training! Keep up the good work

Hey Delbert,

I'm having the same problem with my Roberto!! Prooving difficult to tame and biting all related to him being scared... any tips on how you've done this great work so I can use them with Roberto?

Last night I changed his cage and I think this new one will be more benefitial for him. When I talk he seems to look at me (not sure if he can actually see me, but he's looking nevertheless). He still jumps of anything. The problem I was having with my previous cage was that he wasn't coming out of his little nest, so it was quite difficult for me to handle him. when I put my hand in his cage he would bite!!

Well I always wash my hands before handling and rub my hands in a bit of sawdust.

I started by opening the cage and just talking her to (mostly random rubbish about my day etc - good job nobody was there to listen)

and then i used to put my hand in the cage (she wud smell it and run off or sometimes take a chomp and run off)

Everytime i opened up her cage i offered her a treat and she wud take it from me (and i would leave my hand in the cage)

If i put my hand flat in the cage she runs off, so i put her ball in the cage, she climbed in and she walked out of the ball into my hand. (no biting)

little baby steps at a time
seems to be going well so far. x

Well chompy was a bit unsure at first kept going half way in for a sniff and would then come back out, so I put a treat in, went straight in that time
