Default Potty Training...

I have been trying to potty train Noodles. She has a dish with the litter in, but she seems to just use it as a trash can! She just puts her sunflower seeds and peanut shells in there. There are a few little poos, but nothing special. She still poos and wees loads in her house!

I tried putting some old bedding in the potty litter, but she just took it out!

Her bed is in the upstairs residence in her Mini Duna and the potty is in the sheltered bit under her level, should I try moving it upstairs? I think she is just too lazy to go downstairs to the bathroom!

On a lighter note she is loving her new silent spinner!

Aww bless her! Maybe she prefers somthing with a roof to do her business in? You could try using a jar on its side maybe?

I bought Pippa a hamster potty but she wees in her sand bath. Im thinking about taking it out until she starts to use her potty but i would feel bad taking it away as she loves to roll/dig in it but i dont want her to roll in her wee. Pippa goes upstair to wee though so i dont think the levels could be the problem. I would just keep on with putting the bedding that she has soiled in the place you would like her tpo use as a loo. maybe youy could try removing the house and giving her an open nest?
Then put the potty wherever she decides to pee.
I find my dwarfs like sand baths to pee in

Thanks for the advice guys! I will try the soiled bedding again in her potty and if this does not work then it is time for the open next and putting the potty near that!

In my experience, A sand bath has always been used as a potty/bath... And as was mentioned above, I would probably take her house away and give an open nest so she stops pottying where she sleeps. That is not good for her..

Talking Re: Potty Training...

My teddy bear hamsters love to pee to their sand baths as well.. The first time I put a sand bath on their cage I noticed that there's no pee on one of the corner of their cage where they normally pee. They hate peeing on their bedding. I caught one of them peeing with her two legs wide open and her lower body up on the cage avoiding her bedding to get a drop of her pee.. It was so cute!!!! Coz I'm always seeing pee outside of their cage and I always wonder why they do that.. Now I know

I think Holly must do something like that, I bought her a special corner shaped plastic dish which goes in one corner of the cage and she's supposed to use it as a toilet, but I always find the wet pee in the corner behind and under the dish! The dish itself isn't moved. I can only assume that she gets into the dish and does a handstand so as to be able to pee down the back of the dish! I'd love to catch her doing it ...
