Wheel Usage
When we first brought Poppy home she never stopped on her wheel but since getting her tame she hardly uses it now. I have had out three times tonight! I've just left her a few moments ago & she was still wanting to be out.
Do you think I am over doing it with the playtime? Or are some hamsters not that fussed about wheels? It's just the other 8 are all going mad on theirs at the mo. I have added a new wooden climbing toy for Poppy & she seems to like that.

Re: Wheel Usage
Honey is the same, she hardly goes on her wheel now. She's got a Savic rolly at the minute so I've ordered her the karlie wonderland wooden wheel as I've heard it's good and thought maybe she just needs a change. I always feel bad when I put her back in her cage after having her out for cuddles and floor time as I worry she's not getting enough exercise if she is not using her wheel.

Re: Wheel Usage
The Karlie Wonderland is a great wheel as my son's Syrian, Fudge has one. Poppy has a Wodent Wheel. I was thinking of ordering her the Karlie too.
At least I know Poppy isn't unusual. I just get worried she is bored in her cage although she does have plenty of toys.

He has tricked me Ellie as his Fudge is so laid back. Poppy is skittish. I love her to bits though, she is just so different after only having dwarfs myself.
She can't of been in the adoption centre too long so maybe she is only around 11 weeks now.
Problem is I go in my bedroom and she sits & looks right at me as though to say hurry up get me out! She does the statue ham a lot too which really cracks me up.

Re: Wheel Usage
Haha yeh if she's only 11 ish weeks you still only have another 9 weeks to put up with the bar chewing the skittishness and all in all just a crazy hamster. Well that's what I was told anyway girls reach maturity around 20 weeks? God help me as Dolly is only around 9 weeks and she is a nut case. I have never had a female syrian either so I know exactly how skittish they are as my boys are lovely lazy and laid back. Good luck to us both :P

Re: Wheel Usage
Hate to busrt your bubble but Phoebe is still a mega nutcase and she is 9 months old. She always wants to come out and will not settle untill she has had at least an hour out of the cage. She doesnt run on her wheel much either, just wants out all the time. One night when she had had bath time, cuddle time and ball time, I tried putting her ww in with the karlie and that seemed to work, so she now has two wheels, little madam! It seems to be working though, for now, untill she gets bored again!

Re: Wheel Usage
What a lucky hamster - having two wheels - hehe. Pippa still loves her wheel but it rattles on the bottom of the cage (savic rolly) so im waiting for her karlie to arrive too. Pippa doesnt seem to beg to come out of her cage but does love her time out when she is out. I wonder if she is still getting used to me. XxX

Re: Wheel Usage
Porridge was a wheel nutcase for some time, probably because he was deprived of a wheel until he was 5 months old.
But since he became a year old he really isn't bothered much at all, he certainly would much rather come out and play with me.
Even though I gave him 40 minutes out yesterday and he still wasn't satisfied
So i've spent the first 7 months being kept awake by each wheel i tried until finally settling on the karlie bogie wheel...and now i have the bar chewing to deal with instead
