Default Help with syrians

Im a first timer with hamsters. My syrian, Damian, is quite nippy. Can anyone help me with this problem. Damian is a bit tame but is rather nippy when I put my hand inside to touch or hold him. Should I wear gloves. I tried washing my hands before handling, but it would result in the same thing.

I have 4 syrians btw, the other 3 aren't that nippy. Even if they do, it was a light nip by which I guess are just inquisitive bites and they don't really mean to bite. But Damian bites are rather hard and I am quite sure will cause bleeding. Any suggestions ?

Default Re: Help with syrians

hey, how long have you had Damian?

My last syrian Sandie, would bit viscously if i put my fingers in the cage bars. But was a sweet heart if i put my hand in normally I would have thought you just need to take it slow, give him treats when you manage to stroke him (reinforcing good behaviour), but not a lot of treats! syrians get funny with a change in diet, just one natural treat (avoid too many sugar high processed treats)

Hope thats of some help
