Default Robovski & Russian together?

Hi

I've currently got 5 hamsters, one albino russian Dwarf "Chanel", one robovski "Topaz", one syrian "Sandie". And purchased two more at the weekend from the local pet store.

Two russian dwarf hamsters. At least thats what we were told. They are beautiful. One is called "Lucky" the other "Saphi". One is "dalmation" the other all black with small white patches.

The problem is that Lucky is constantly active, always on her wheel, the other is constantly asleep!. Now this doesn't surprise me too much because i've had a couple of them before, but Lucky reminds me so much of topaz! looks identical body wise and actions.

And i can certainly say that i have never seen Chanel on the wheel at the speed Lucky goes at. Also Saphi seems a lot bigger and sterdier than Lucky.

Now i know it sounds stupid, and i don't know of a robovski that looks like a dalmation, but in this case i don't want to leave it to chance.

Is it possible that the pet store got it mixed up? Or is it possible that it may just look like a robovski while its young?

They are happy together, and are more than happy to snuggle up.

Hi and Welcome to the forum

There is a new mutation at the moment called the mottled or pied roborovski, but this colour is still quite rare - which country are you in?

There is a chance that you have one of these robos as pet shops do sometimes keep all of their dwarf species together.

Do you have pics of them?

Those colors are definitely not winter whites, so they might be robovski really From what i have heard when two hamsters live together, often one is calm and lazy and the other one is active and runs around like crazy - that would be the dominant one

thanks for the responses. it's just that it looks identical to my robovski, shape wise and actions! (would take photos of Topaz, but well Topaz used to have a friend called Zee, but unfortunately they started fighting-well zee started attacking topaz, so now theres no getting near Topaz )

I'm in the UK. Saphi is definitely a russian as her black back has a blacker black line down the middle of it

heres lucky only had her a few days and she's happy to sit on my hand. (which again makes me think she's a russian)

Hiya,

thanks for the photo, she is gorgeous

I *think* she is a mottled campbell or a mottled hybrid - just make sure the sexes are correct if you are letting them live together as spet shops sometimes get them wrong

thank you she takes a bit of "catching" she's very curious and darts around but becomes reasonable calm on hand.

Sure i will find out in a couple of weeks she'll either get bigger or stay the same lol

Whats not good is i'm off to the vet with Sandie now she's been struggling with wet tail. Unfortunately it does'nt look good.
