Awkward o.e
Soo I was at the Pet Supermarket the other day and saw the most... strange... thing. It was a little baby black syrian hamster, and he looked like he was asleep cuz he was upside down and his eyes were closed, but he was bent a little bit and sucking on his... erm private parts . I was like OK THENNNN *walks away quickly*
Haha. is this normal behaviour? he was just a little baby...

Re: Awkward o.e
Well he could have been re-eating some of the special poo that they do pass through twice but it is not unusual for very young pups to try and suckle on things. This can be a problem with hand rearing young animals of any species as the instinct to suckle is very strong and they will latch on to either their own paws and genitals ot those of their siblings. They can damage each other sucking things that are not meant to be sucked! This baby may have been separated too young and be comfort suckling just like a baby would suck its thumb or a dummy.

Re: Awkward o.e
A friend of mine has two degus who regularly do this, the first time she saw it she posted on a forum about it and quite a few people came back to say that their male rodents did it too.

My 'goos did it too...
I don't think that is what hamsters are doing though, as they never actually seem to have their privates hanging out.
