Not using his wheel
TeddyB only sits very briefly on his wheel and seems to prefer to go behind the scenes and chew at the wheel supports.
I have various sizes of silent spinners - not interested and various sizes of wheels still not interested
My little robo does go full speed for very long spells despite his age but TeddyB the syrian not on your life!

Re: Not using his wheel
has he had a wheel before? i know that two of my pet shop hammies had to learn what a wheel was before they went on one. There is also the possibility he goes on it late at night when you are asleep and you just don't know (:

Re: Not using his wheel
Silent spinners are generally not suitable for syrians due to their size. Syrians need a 8 inch wheel at least and silent spinners come in 4.5" 6" and 12", do you have the 12" one? Hanmmies can use it but it is huge and most people will struggle to fit it in a cage! I would reccomend a Junior Wodent wheel or a 20cm Karlie Wonderland wheel.
Alternativley if he still seems uninterested what about ball time, or some free run time in a hammy proof room or in a dry bath tub with some toys?? These may help him to burn off some of that chewing energy!

Re: Not using his wheel
i agree with hope, its probably because the wheel is too small for him and is straining his back. Or if hes long hair he may be getting his hair caught in the wheels spindle, a wheel like the karlie wonderland wheel should help if thia is the case

Re: Not using his wheel
Thank you for your very helpful replies.
Having tried so many variations, i think he just doesn't like them but i'll check out the Karlie Wonderland wheel and the Wodent and see what they are like.
I think he is a bit lazy

Re: Not using his wheel
Sorry to be a pain!
I have been looking at various sites for the wheels mentioned, and a couple of times (mainly when i was watching some youtube vids) reference was made to the wodent junior being too small?
Can i just check that the Junior one is the size I should buy? so i can get the correct one and not add further to my selection of wheels many thanks

Junior it is then, thank you, I just hope he will give it a go............I think he might as he likes to investigate 'holes' so this may be just the thing for him. The hamsters I saw looked perfectly content on them, but it did no harm to check here for more expert advice

Re: Not using his wheel
How old is he? Did he just recently stop using his wheel? If he is older, it could be arthritis.
