So Thanks to the inspiration of micks cages i decided to have a go myself:mrgreen:

So i won a huge bargain on Ebay - £2.75 for a wall cabinet, tv cabinet and a table thrown in too!

We picked it up today and heres some pics:
The wall cabinet

Other pics of a closer view aorund the Different Parts:

The tv cabinet:

The wall cabinet is narrower then i thought but would still make a decent cage with all for top parts connected.
Then the bottom half will just be storage for now but possibly another cage in future.

Then the tv cabinet is a really nice space, but converting the drawer part would create a huge space :)

So me and my grandad finally got started this afternoon. And we've managed to complete the tv cabinet!
I was going to move porridge into it since he began to bar chew. But hes since stopped and hes not going to gain any space by moving into one. Plus he loves to climb on his bars :D
So maybe i'll be able to persuade my mum to let me have a new ham or two?
A single chinese or a pair of russians maybe?

anyways heres some pics:
the whole thing, with drawers left for storage.

Top floor, plastic coated wood used for the trays with a hole cut for ramp between floors.

bottom floor

I'm going to order one of these for the ramp: Rat Toys : Trixie Hamster Ladder Natural Wood 18 Rungs 7x27cm : www.EquineCanineFeline.com the place to buy all your Pet Products, Horse Products and Pet Supplies online (http://www.equinecaninefeline.com/catalog/trixie-hamster-ladder-natural-wood-18-rungs-7x27cm.html)
and possibly attach hinges to hook the ramp on.

Its such a great space, measuring 37 x 55 cm on both floors.

I'm so proud and thankful to my kind grandad, with all his D.I.Y skills.

fluffymunchkins
04-25-2010, 01:48 AM
indeed! Got to get the ramp sorted first though :)

Oh and the doors aren't as heavy as i first thought, so they could be pushed open, any ideas how to solve this?

Hope
04-25-2010, 01:52 AM
Yep! Magnets like you get on some cupboard doors. you fix one bit to the inside and the other to the inside of the door and it holds it shut. Sorry, do yuo know what I'm on about!? thats a rubbish explaination!

Forgot to mention Mel that at the front of the cabinet you will have to attach a wooden strip along the length of the opening between the doors otherwise when you open the doors, wood shavings and bedding will fall out. Its a mistake I made until I fitted a 1 inch high strip of wood. It just needs cutting to the exact width of the opening and wedging in place. All you need to do when cleaning the cabinet out is remove the wooden strip and brush everything out into a bin bag. If you need any advice at all, just let me know.

fluffymunchkins
04-25-2010, 05:16 AM
ahhh yes good idea i didn't think about that!
Will work on that next time me and my grandad get to work.

Thanks, if i think of anything i will be sure to ask :D

MickyB
04-25-2010, 05:26 AM
It was something that I forgot to do aswell and everytime I opened the doors, my missus had to get Henry (Hoover) out so I had to come up with a solution. The strip of wood is only a couple of quid from B&Q vand will be sufficient to do all your shelves.

fluffymunchkins
04-25-2010, 05:28 AM
do you have trays or just the shelf with a strip of wood?

I don't have to worry about getting wood, we have so much spare wood around!

MickyB
04-25-2010, 10:19 AM
Its just the shelf with a strip of wood wedged on the front. Trust me its far easier to clean that way. If you have rotastak tubes and end caps for water bottles, put them inside the cabinet aswell. I find the rotastak water bottles to be much better than the ferplast ones with the suction cups.

fluffymunchkins
04-25-2010, 10:41 AM
well i've made a pull out tray that should hopefully contain most the bedding. If not i'll add the strip of wood.
I don't have any of my rotastak stuff anymore, all sold and gone :(
But i can attach normal water bottles to the back mesh as i've left a gap for my hand to get round.

I did have a ferplast sippy but the suction cups got destroyed XD It was a pain anyway!

MickyB
04-25-2010, 11:26 AM
Non of my hamsters seem to get on with the ferplast sippy. If you have space for another Robo, two of Tammys White Faced have just had another litter each. They really are premium quality hamsters.

My mum is getting a mega begging!

i just showed my mum the pics on micks thread ' last years litter' and she thought they were cute and funny!
Plus when i said that there was a breeder in kingswinford, Tammy (very close to me) SHE DIDN'T SAY NO!!!!

I gave her the puppy dog eyes and said about the cabinet cage, and all she replied was, it needs the finishing touches first.

That being the ladder between levels, the tray re sizing cause its too big (typical) and the magnets on the doors.
So its not impossible after all...i'm already thinking of names and stuff LOL

I'll get working on finishing it then ask her again, then contact tammy if she says yes.

Hope

fluffymunchkins
05-16-2010, 05:15 AM
that will come after she gives in :)
Once we move house (in the next few months hopefully) my bedroom will be downsizing :(
But don't get me wrong, the whole of it is going to be devouted to hammies :D
if she thinks a samller space will stop me, she is very wrong.
