hi! does anybody here know what could cause my syrian hammy to not burrow?

instead of burrowing or even interacting with his hides that he has, he is sleeping on his wheel?

earlier today, i put him into his new cage and he just ran on his wheel the whole time and i didn't think anything of it at the time but he's still running on his wheel. he has stopped but instead of burrowing, he slept on his wheel which i was concerned about because he didn't do that in his old cage.

does anyone have any ideas to why this could be? please lmk if u find out. <3

Hi,
Probably a silly question but is his bed clean? Your answer is probably 'yes'! Is the new cage 2nd hand? if so it might still smell of its previous resident? It could also just be a little stress over the move and not sure if its his home yet! Hamsters are territorial and there homes there home.
I had a similar issue with my 'Bella' she was moving her bedding around both her hideaways/beds and I wondered why! Until one day I sore her sat on top of her usual bed that she had used from day one and she had out grown it. She could easily get in there but once in with the bedding as well it was very tight. If his behaviour doesn't change, move him back and see how he behaves back in his old cage.

if you have just swopped him over, he may just be getting used to everything and checking it all out, then nodding off in his wheel.

None of our Syrians burrow and neither did our departed Syrian. They like to sleep in their big guinea pig sized houses where they have built a nice nest sunk into the substrate with a hoard underneath or closeby.

Running on the wheel can also be a stress buster after a move. He'll settle in once he gets used to his new cage and makes it his home.

hi! the cage is second hand because it was the only option since the others in my area are all too small but i made sure to clean all of it well and his bedding is clean and new, we bought it today but im planning on changing it in a week or so to see if he does not like the bedding which i've currently got. thank you for the help! <3
