Syrian will only stuff cheeks

Iv had my Syrian hamster about 3months now during this time Iv upgraded his cage twice. He now is in a big bin cage with a log hut under the bedding and he will only stay there and eat there. He is fine to be picked up andpet/held but when we give him treats of even refill his food he will shove everything in the pouches and wait until he returns to the hut. He will only come out if he bears that we refilled the food or tempt him with a treat, he waits until it's dark to come out and run on the wheel. The previous cages I had him in he would come out and socialize much more. Is this normal he seems very happy with the new set up how ever now we barely get to see him we were trying to get him to be comfortable enough to sleep/eat in our hands. Also he has now been in this new bin ca 's f I r roughly a month can anybody help?

I've read several times of hamsters being less social once their set up has been upgraded. They are solitary animals, so if their enclosure provides them with what they need, they don't really have a reason to bother with humans :)

Some do of course, and are great pets. You've only had your hamster for 3 months so I would encourage you to keep working on your bond and see what happens. But there is also the possibility that because you've provided him with a great set up, his needs are met and he is less interested in interacting with you. It is a bummer, but also a compliment about how well you treat him :)

I was going to post something similar!! We've had our Syrian for 3 months and we changed his cage after 1 month. In the smaller cage he was out quite a lot. Now, he is quite happy as long as he's fed! Whenever we refill his food, he clambers over my hands to see what's there 😂 He stuffs his pouches and runs to his den to stash it! When he stops to see me, he loves to be held and snuggles in my neck, loves exploring my desk when I work late at night and climbs over my hands while I type (it's all secure!) but otherwise seems happy alone in his hamster hotel 😂 xx
