Hello everyone!
After several years without a hamster, I adopted an 11 month old Syrian from a small animal rescue - and after a few weeks of waiting for him to be ready to come home, he arrived on the 17th February \\:D/
We named him Grogu, and left him pretty much to settle in other than checking he had eaten and making sure he could access all areas of his cage.
He doesn't seem bothered in the slightest, though - he's a curious, funny little fellow already who has managed to choose the direction that the wheel has a slight squeak in (after testing out both directions, obviously) and has dragged a chew bigger than he is into his nest  He seems interested in me and has already decided that my hand sometimes contains treats, which he is apparently a fan of.

This thread is for Grogu pictures and adventures :)
Thanks to everyone who gave advice and updated me on the latest in hamster care since my last furball.

Ooh he is gorgeous! And I love the name (baby Yoda :-)). We watched the whole Mandalorian series recently.

When I saw his photo from the rescue, he looked "adorably ugly" and it made me think of Grogu, haha! Turns out he's a lot more handsome than we thought he was going to be, but the name still fits :)

He looks to be enjoying his cage! Looks like he is a red eyed? :-). Is he cream or cinnamon?

He's having a blast I think, always either burrowing about and foraging or in his wheel - or waiting for me to appear with his fresh food if I'm late. He is red eyed! And he's cream, I think - head and some back patches, white everywhere else. What on a rat I would call a "hooded" variety but I don't know in hamster terms

Grogu is very enthusiastic about his food, loves his wheel and is enjoying foraging in his substrate, particularly at the deep end of his cage. He's friendly and curious and we're taking it slowly but he's fine being stroked and always takes food from my fingers now.

Grogu is now happy and confident and has adjusted really well to being picked up and handled. He always comes to the front of the cage to be stroked now, and won't leave even if he's been fed until he gets some attention. He has also decided that all fresh veggies etc need to be hand fed to him one piece at a time or he's not interested.

Lovely photo! He is adorable. So fluffy :-) That is one thing I love about those cages - that they come up to that big low door and rest their paws on it :-)

I'm delighted to announce that Grogu now lives in a Plaza and is very happy. He's become actively less interested in me which I'm not upset about in the slightest because it means he's happy and has a lot to keep himself busy with :)

Thank you both!
I think - and hope - that he's happy. That's all I want! He is always busy, foraging and running and digging through his sand or soil pits. I tried to helpfully unblock one of his tunnels this week and he immediately went and blocked it back up  silly me! I can't thank everyone enough for the advice and help; he seems like the happiest, most optimistic little hammie I've ever owned and its wonderful to see.

Grogu is such a wonderful member of my family and I'm so glad I applied to adopt him - he's such a sweet, curious little lad and has settled in so perfectly that I can't believe I've only had him since March!
His favourite food is banana - of any sort, he loves fresh, dried, banana biscuits, banana baby food, anything vaguely banana related  he goes wild for it! If he so much as sniffs a banana in the same room he's on the bridge nearest the door, waiting for me to provide a treat.
I've given him a wheel I used to use for my pet rats when I had them; it's huge and he absolutely ROCKETS along on it, full on sprinting, little legs a blur! I'm delighted he likes it but dreading having to replace it when he eventually kills it

What a sweetie he is, lovely looking little fellow. Pale Banded our old hammy was like him though he was nearly white.
