i r sleepy nows

Teddy is my short-haired Syrian who I adopted from Small Animal Rescue Society through Petfinder. His name on the ad is actually Theodore but I call him Teddy. Two of the SARS volunteers drove to my house on March 9, 2010 so I can meet him.

I was actually shocked when I saw him. He didn't look like the hamster in the picture and he was so thin compared to my long haired Syrian. When I held him, I could feel his ribs >.<

He seemed so hyper, curious and excited with his new surroundings. He was standing on his hind legs, climbing up and down the bars of his cage and sniffing like mad lol.

The SARS volunteer, who dropped him off, said his previous owners moved away to a new house and left him all alone in his cage in their old apartment :( (without any food too most likely). He was found last week of January 2010 and has been in foster care with one of the Small Animal Rescue Society volunteers.

I felt really bad for him so I told them I wanted to take him. And I've been feeding him lots every day I think he gained a bit of weight around the stomach area I really need to cut down on the treats >.<

He wakes up to the smallest noise and always runs to the door of his cage to observe what's happening all around him. He enjoys running on his wheel all night like all the other hamsters, climbs the side of his cage and does monkey bars on the roof of it and wants attention all the time :D

I'm not sure what colour he is though but I think he's a Dark Golden Agouti

sorry for the long essay lol ^__^"

thanks everyone =] so he is a golden.

i like his color too. every time i go to pet shops, they only have banded and dalmatian hamsters so i'm glad
i got him.

sleeping hams are my favorite too! i take tons of pictures when my hamsters are sleeping hehe

i guess it's not bad for him gain a little weight. but i think i need to buy him a bigger wheel. he's using a silent spinner 6 1/2"

he did have a rough start but he's doing okay now. he's having so much fun and even destroyed carpet corners when i was gone and left him to explore outside his cage lol

these pics were taken yesterday:

How old is he? Toffee is about 4 months old and he recently had a growth spurt and became more chubby.

oh and the sudden weight gan is probably nothing to worry about.
It'd be better if you weighed him to get a better idea of whether he is a good weight or not. And also monitor it regularly to see if hes gaining or loosing.

because he was very underfed before and now hes being fed well its only natural he would build up weight fast, plus if hes still quite young then he is growing and filling out.

i don't know how old he is. i asked the volunteer how old he was but they didn't know either since he was abandoned. she just said he's "young"
sammy is bigger than him who's 6-7 months old. so he's probably 4 or 5 months old.

i've only had teddy for more 3 weeks and before whenever i held him i could feel his ribs. now, his arms has gotten fat and his stomach has gotten big :O he still energetic and likes climbing up on everything.

i'm gonna try to weigh him in the scale tonight. whatgood and bad hamster weight (lbs) ?

i tried lookin it up on the internet but couldn't find answers @_@

he is sooo gorgeous :-) all hammies look fat when they sit in that cleaning position. dont think he is too fat

yeah...the 6.5inch silent spinner is too small for syrians. 8inch is a good size

fluffymunchkins
04-03-2010, 12:26 PM
awww what great photos hes such a poser!
Pets hop hammies weigh less than breeders hams generally. Porridge is a bit over 100grams which is healthy :)
i'd say between 90grams and 150 grams is fine.
Although occassionally tiny hams and chubby hams may be a a bit more

chubchub
04-03-2010, 12:58 PM
yes, he is such a poser! he reminds me of hamtaro. i actually don't have an ounce/gram scale i have a regular bathroom scale lol i guess i won't be able to do it tonight. and sorry for the typos i typed the question wrong. i found some answers on yahoo and they said the same thing, between 90grams and 150 grams is fine.

thanks fluffymunchkins and annie :)

thanks everyone =] so he is a golden.

That is interesting, considering golden is the wild color.

Try to find a wheel with 8 inch diameter.

I think an average weight on a syrian is about 150g. They are generally fully grown at about 4-5 months of age.

thanks :) i already ordered a 8" comfort wheel at the nearest pet shop but they wont have it in the store until wednesday >_<

04-09-2010, 11:27 AM
aww thanks! he is lovely :D

i got the idea from icanhascheezburger.com and other funny pet picture sites lol

i talk for hamsters sometimes too

i also use my "hamster voice" (baby voice) when i talk to my hamsters. one time, my friend slept over and she woke up because she heard me talking in this weird voice. she thought i was talking to myself LOL until she saw Sammy

Those biscuite look good, Chubchub :)

Annie, I think horse biscuits would be okay as long as the didn't contain lots of sugar or salt or any medications. I don't think they usually do but it's been a while since I last had horse biscuits in my possession. Horse biscuits are usually made from cereals but I can't remember if they usually have salt and sugar in them :)
