My younger son’s hamster, who I also loved, passed away yesterday.
We bought Hammond as a 10 week old babe from a recommended pet store, animaltastic, where they have good knowledge and take good care of their animals.
Hammond was well looked after by my son, we’ve had two previous hamsters who lived to 2 and 2 and a quarter. So when Evan noticed there was an issue with Hammond we took him to the vet, got antibiotic. I noticed he was breathing heavily on Wednesday. But on Thursday-he was running around in his ball and appeared a lot better.
So when I asked Evan to get him up to check on him last night we were upset and shocked to find he had passed away.
He was only just 7 months old. He was a lively, friendly hamster who loved being handled. He was very chatty.
Evan has said he doesn’t want another hamster as he says it’s too upsetting to lose a pet so soon when you’re so attached.
We have decorated a box and he’s in comfy bedding for his final rest, were burying him under our magnolia this afternoon .
 RIP Hammond.

I'm so sorry to hear of your sad loss.

Hamsters are such wonderful pets, it is so sad to lose one but you must take comfort in the fact that despite his short life, Hammond got the love and care he deserved from you and your son.

While seven months is very young to die, the one heartbreaking thing about hamsters is that we get so attached to them yet they have such short lifespans.

Rest In Peace Hammond.

So sorry for your loss. Sometimes hamsters get ill and pass just like humans do. You've done all you could for Hammond who was a lucky hamster to have known the love and care given to him by you and Evan.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss, it sounds so unexpected given his age but you acted quickly when he fell ill so hopefully you can find comfort knowing that the treatment made him comfortable.
R.I.P. Hammond.

Hamsters are wonderful little characters and really charm their way into your hearts. I hope you and your son can soon remember Hammond and smile. xo

I'm so sorry to hear about Hammond, 7 months is so young. You and your son did everything right, you took him to the vet straight away and got him medication. Your ham was very much loved and cared for by the both of you. Hammond's decorated box and resting place sounds lovely.
It's perfectly normal for Evan not wanting to get another hamster so soon, he needs to grieve and understand this sometimes happens. xx

What sad news about Hammond. He was too young to be taken from Evan and your family. I am sure it is a comfort though to know that he had a happy life with you all and was so well cared for. In time Evan may feel able to have another ham. It is so hard when they leave us x
