Hey all! I got hamper a whimzee today. It's the crocodile kind, just like most, and it's red. He loves it! He nibbles it almost every time, and it's a really good improvement in his home.

Any advice on the whimzee?

Glad he is enjoying it! As you know it’s Libby’s favorite thing in the world! Amen sure he dosen’t go to town on it in one day. I’d love to see photos! :)

Aww, I'm so glad that Hamper is enjoying his new alligator whimzee chew! As you know, that is one of Eros's most favorite treats (besides mealworms, of course) and toys. I wonder if Hamper will choose to tuck her new chew friend into bed, too, lol. Please give Hamper a nice cuddle for me; I just love your little fur darling. :)

Do the different whimzees have different appeal? Like, would an alligator one be more appealing to a ham than just a boring stick?

Glad Hamper is enjoying his whimzee!

I’ve never thought sbout it but I’m sure certain shapes are more interesting to chew than others! I get mine the toothbrushes or sticks though.

I give Theodore the Pedigree Dentastix that he just loves but now you have me thinking he's missing out on something! The selection on Amazon Canada for Whimzees isn't great but I have the little dog toothbrushes coming for him now. I would have picked up the alligators but it wasn't a good option I'm afraid!

Definitely feed whimzees over dentastix - those are very low quality and not at all good for hamsters. The supplements in them are also for dogs, not hamsters, which doesn’t help. Take a look at the difference in the ingredients list for pedigree treats and whimzees, there’s a big difference.

Thanks mangoandmimi .. it does get confusing at times. I'm sure I read somewhere that they were fine for hamsters ... but no worries .. I'll remove what he has left in his cage tonight and its only whimzees for Theodore from here on in!

It's not that they're toxic or unsafe really, just quite unhealthy and not exactly something you'd want your hamster to be chomping away on when there's much better alternatives. I wouldn't worry as it shouldn't have done any harm.
