Hi everyone! My name is Beth, and I'm hoping to have a Syrian hammy of my own very soon. I live in southern New Jersey (USA), just outside of Philadelphia, and have always loved small pets. As a child I had guinea pigs, then recently went through a 5 year span with gerbils, which was a lot of fun. I think finally, though, I'd like to give a Syrian hamster a try, since they're a bit larger than gerbils (more to cuddle!) and seem to actually enjoy spending time with their owners. (Gerbils just tolerate being cuddled, and only get better at being held once they're older and slow down.)

Looking forward to learning more here! Most of my information about hamsters and hamster care has come from YouTuber ErinsAnimals.

Hi,

I have two gerbil girls at he moment and i can't hold them at all yet so i'm glad to know they slow down a bit.

I've just taken in a Syrian as of last night and i can't believe how much bigger she is :). I'm trying really hard just to leave her alone to settle but i'm really looking forwards to being able to hold her.

I've been absolutely glued to Erin's animals for the last few weeks too so you're not the only one. I think her video'd are great.

Hope you get your hammy soon and get to have lots of cuddles.

Thanks for the messages, everyone!

Oreo, if you keep at it with your gerbils they will get better at letting you pick them up, but they're definitely not interested in sitting still in your hands. As they get older, they slow down a bit, but they're never really that interested in snuggling with you; that's why they have each other!

I am talking with someone now about adopting a Syrian hamster. I hope to go and pick him up this weekend. I just went through a very horrible experience with adopting a hamster from a bad situation, but hopefully this works out better. I'd much rather adopt. And I can't wait to snuggle him

Thanks haushinkuh,

I'm just in the process of building a large play pen so i can have them out more and hopefully get more used to me.

and hopefully it'll help with trying to tame Luna as well.

Best wishes with your hammy adopting.
