Hi,

we are beginners to being hamster owners, we did have a dwarf Hammy but sadly escaped 6 months ago and no amount of traps have found him. We have since found a hamster rescue rather than using pet shop and have fallen in love with a Syrian called oliver.

We've been looking for a new cage as ours doesn't meet the minimum size requirement, by a long shot... our last was a rotastack and doesn't even meet the minimum standards for dwarfs... I feel so frustrated to think the pet shop told us we could even have 2 or 3 hamsters in it. I remember saying to hubby i didn't think it was big enough as i couldn't fit many things in by the time the house, n stuff was in. Anyway i digress, we are now looking for a suitable hamster cage, I can't get over how many are below the standard required... the only ones I've seen so far are the Savic hamster haven and ZooPlus Alaska

I'm in the uk, does anyone have any other recommendations?

Hi & welcome to HC :)
Congrats on getting Oliver!

Zooplus is about the best place for cages, I think the Hamster Heaven is a little on the small side for a syrian tbh & if you did choose to go with that one then it's better used without the tubes & penthouse, the alaska is a good cage & they also have the Barney which is very popular & the alexander.

Hello and welcome to HC :) The only other cage I can think of in addition to what Cypher has already suggested in the Savic Plaza.

Hello and welcome to HC!

As mentioned above, zooplus is the best place you can go to get good quality cages, that are both large enough and pretty affordable :) best wishes

Thanks all, my kids are so excited although sadly we may not get Oliver :( we should know by Monday evening. We've ordered the Alaska and going to let kids choose a few toys. We do have a few bits from our last hammy but he was a dwarf so nkt sure how suitable they will be. Orders new wheel and guessing will need a ball as ours was a small one x

Hi and welcome to HC, Carolyn! I hope that you were able to give Oliver his forever, loving home with you and your family. If not, maybe another wonderful hammy in need of a great home will call out to you to take him/her home. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you will be blessed with a hammy to love and cherish and visa versa. Eros says hi and waves a tiny paw to all of you. :)
