Hi everyone, my name is Clare and I adopted a little Syrian yesterday from the pet shop, he is gray and white sable colouring, when we got him home we left him to settle and explore his cage, he seems a happy wee dude and full of energy, he did squeal at me this morning when I was fixing his water bottle, but he was trying to sleep so I don't blame him haha, and he likes to sleep in his tubes and not the bedding, he is showing signs of natural behaviour by collecting bits of food and bringing them to his sleepy tube, we decided on the name "turbo fluffnugget", we are hoping to tame him once he is settled more so any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

Unfortunately sleeping in tubes is a really bad idea, they generally have poor ventilation & if your ham sleeps in them the chances are he will be storing food & peeing in there too, it may seem a bit harsh but if you can it's best to remove the tubes & get him to sleep elsewhere, a nice big house with no base & lots of shredded plain white toilet tissue is best for nests, or even a large bendy bridge.

Hi Clare, congrats on your new fluff:) I wouldn't let your ham make a nest in the tube.
It's better to remove the tube, healthier for the hammy.

Thanks everyone, we are on day 4 of having him now, he has moved into the little house instead of the tube and has moved all the toilet paper bedding into it again, he is certainly living up to his name "Turbo" as we had an escape yesterday when I was topping up his food dish, managed to get him to climb into his bed without handling him, and pop him back in the cage. he is still in the habit of squealing at me when I talk to him or have my hand in the cage to top up his food or water so is still very frightened, hopefully another week or so and he will settle a bit before I try taming techniques, he is eating, drinking and sleeping plenty so I'm happy with that :)
