Hi

Ive had my hamster now nearly 3 months and before last week never noticed her smell!

Lately she has had her heat day where she smells like burning rubber! only her if you get really close! however she has started to smell like it all the time! EVERY DAY!!

She is now 9 months old
Can i do anything about it?

Is there any discharge? Does she feel bloated or swollen? Drinking more?
Smelling strongly all the time can indicate a womb infection or pyometra which is very serious. Try wiping her clean with a damp cotton ball and pressing very gently to the side of the vent to see if she has a discharge. If in doubt consult a vet about this to be sure.

No discharge I just did what you said no bloating she completely normal she drinking normal and eating!

She on heat on Thursday and started to smell last night so if it every 4 days could it be she is smelling because of that.
When I first got her they said she was on heat on that day which was a Saturday
She has just gone into a new cage so could that be a reason her marking her scent again? She has been in there since Friday!

Yes she could be scent marking the new cage I'd say. I would keep a close eye on her and see how she settles in.

I quite like the smell of burning rubber lol! Hope she is ok and it's just a normal thing after a cage change. It does sound a bit like that - a combination of over-scent marking and on heat. But I guess it could be infection as well.

Very strange! I just got her out to play gave her a sniff and no smell!
So finger crossed was just a bit of a blip!
She was running around the sofa finding her treats by hitting the cardboard star to make them fall out wanted to go in her ball she sits in it and waits for me to put the lid on!
So hopefully was just left over from other night!
But will def keep and eye!

I think she is alright. Probably in heat and over-scent-marking her new cage, making a smelly combination.

If in doubt, consult a vet.
