I LOVE photography, so thought I'd start a thread! Starting with some animals from today's zoo trip!
I had to zoom in for all of them as the animals were so far away, as each enclosure also had a glass/plastic screen around it for safety so a lot of animals we didn't really see. However, from the way they have zoomed in, some look like I was inside the enclosures! Hahaha (I promise I wasn't!) The background might be a bit grey/dark on some as it wasn't that sunny today!

This thread will be mostly animals, as that is mostly what I take pictures of, though I do take photos sometimes of other interesting things!

Wow, thanks! I did want to do photography professionally, but I don't have the attention span to study it at college! :(

I forgot to mention the butterflies we were actually in with them :)

What do you use to host your images, I'm fed up with small size images to go on here.?
I'm a photography nut too..!
Went to college part time and studied 5 C&G's in photography and was a Semi Pro for quite some time could never break into it full time, as it is such a hit and miss business.
Have a look at my Flickr page "Dave Radcliffe" these shots are just odds and sods of stuff not really my Pro work with people.

I just uploaded the photos from my memory card to my laptop, then after adding to Facebook I clicked the little yellow picture symbol at the top of this comment box, then went onto the pciture on Facebook, right clicked on it and clicked on "copy image loaction". Then you click paste that code into the yellow box and then once you click on the button to add your post, it posts the picture ... Don't know if that made any sense?!

In October 2009, my sister and I went on our first grown-up vacation by ourselves! We went to Spain, and it was SOOOO hot (over 30 degrees every day!) This is a waterfall that was just round the corner from the hotel

Hey all! So I've not been on this site for a while, but have been taking some photos so thought I'd share! Enjoy! :D

A few weeks ago we had my mom's funeral. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to bring home any of the flowers so I was given a pot of mini daffodils - daffodils are my favorite flower! They didn't last very long :(
https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/16938970_10158487158010347_6008617325519570417_n.j pg?oh=e6d1f2d6ffe85cbcfcf37e842daf363b&oe=59393D93

This building is called The Royal Pavillion, but my friend calls it "The Fairy House" when it's all lit up at night! This picture isn't as good as I wanted - some man kept getting in the way of my picture-taking!
https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/16681644_10158418660600347_9188269904519194940_n.j pg?oh=d911e500e0fc2efe74ab146890686cce&oe=5933E07E

And finally, a food one! So I recently discovered Snickers bars! Like seriously, how have I gone 28 years without them?!
https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/p206x206/16807655_10158473395585347_7676532838370754705_n.j pg?oh=2b392634ec6980c09bdb125950e89579&oe=5964AAAA

ETA : Can't believe I haven't shared this one yet! Took this back in November or December - can't remember exactly. I love being home!

You can get bulbs already in a pot which last longer.
I know you've been through a tough time, remember we're here for you.
So you've had your first taste of a Snickers bar? I prefer mars bar.

These daffodils were in a pot! I think maybe I over watered them or something as they literally lasted a few days! Yes, can not believe I have only just discovered Snickers! Like how is that seriously possible?! I don't like Mars bars though!
(Pics - 1 is the day I got the daffodils. 2 is the next day. 3 is day 5 and they'd pretty much all died :( By the day after the leaves were yellow and the daffodils had all dried out :( Not sure if I did something wrong!)

So what made you try a Snickers?

My best friend often sends me random packages (she lives too far away for us to see each other often) and she'd put in a Snickers bar :)

Kinda ... She just sends random things she thinks I'll like, and often includes some snacks or chocolate!

Some more photos for you guys! Yesterday was a gorgeous day - I went out in my SUMMER clothes, sandals and sunglasses!!!! Tyically today is cold and wet!

So I didn't have any real plan of where I was going to go, so just went for a walk. Along the way I saw some daffodils! Yay!

Many of the things along the pier were closed as it's only just coming out of the Winter season. Some won't open until the tourist season starts (usually late May to early June)

And finally, one of the pubs along the seafront has these colored windows ... My city is very proud of it's LGBTQ+ community, and in a lot of places (especially along the seafront and the area I live in) there are lots of little things around to show this. A lot of people in the UK automatically associate my city with it's LGBTQ+ community when they hear the name of the city, but this is something we are very proud of!

That one isnt brilliant, as the stupid lights were on on the pier! It looks awesome once it's dark and all the lights are on, but when it's not dark it's looks a bit silly! However, I liked the sky lol

And then on Monday I had an appointment in another town, and I was waiting for someone who was coming with me. I had Dolly Parton playing on my phone - I LOVE Dolly! Anyway, this little guy stopped to listen, and at one point it looked like he was dancing! He also seemed to like to listen to me talking to him! I'm not sure if he was hurt or sick as he was there quite a while, but I like to think he enjoyed my company and music! :D

It's definitely starting to feel more like Summer than Spring! And I can not believe it is almost Easter! Got quite a few pics for you guys today, so please bear with me!

And then yesterday we went to see Beauty and The Beast at the cinema - I really recommend it! Afterwards I went for a walk along the Marina, and then down to the seafront. I was hoping to catch the sunset but there was too much cloud so didn't get any sunset which was quite sad!

Monday was a Bank Holiday here in the UK, and typically it was a cold, gray day! My brother and his family came down to see me, and we had a nice day. I took a few photos, but not many as by the time we went to the pier it was starting to rain! Whilst I was waiting for them, I took a photo of a palm tree down at the Marina - mainly because I was so surprized we had any!

After we'd had lunch we went for a walk to the pier. All the shops have now opened and tourist season is just about to start. But I managed to get this shot of the pier

I also took this one of the sea. I was trying to capture the massive waves - the sea was very choppy! But it didn't quite work out!

Surprizingly everywhere was quite empty for a Bank Holiday! We were expecting it to be much more busy!

You really love seagulls

The Royal Pavilion is amazing, very beautiful. it looks moorish, is it? It is typical in the south of Spain to see that kind of buildings, but it's normal because we were invaded at some point in the past.

It's not so much that I love seagulls but they're kind of part of the culture here - plus they're willing to pose!

LOL yes there seems to be hundreds of seagulls lately but I think that is just because all the seafront shops have now opened - so they're hanging round hoping for food! I am hoping to take a look inside the Royal Pavilion at some point :)

I don't have any recent pictures as it's been such horrible weather! However, I have set up an Instagram account for my photography ... The link is here https://www.instagram.com/t_lucas_photography ... For those of you who follow my other account, this is a completely separate one and will be for my photography ONLY :) It's finally stopped raining so if it's nice tomorrow I plan to take more photos

Hey! :D
On Friday we went on a loooooooong walk. We started at a "farm" - it's not really a farm, just a farm shop with some chickens, turkeys, 2 sheep, a goat and a donkey. I had a lovely chat with the donkey - everyone else thought I was mad, but he seemed to enjoy it. I also played him some music which he seemed to enjoy too! (Yes, I have a habit of playing music to animals! I believe all animals have feelings, and the donkey looked sad so I wanted to cheer him up!) I didn't get any photos during the walk, but I did get some of the donkey, goat and chickens!

Hey there! I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine! In true British style the weather has been crazy. One day raining, the next hot and sunny! And tourist season is in full swing here, making the city even busier than normal - it feels like it has grown! Anyway, I have some photo for you all today. These were taken last week, on a chilly gray day, and I managed to get home just before the giant rain storm!
I went to one of the parks. We have lots of beautiful parks in the city. This one has a place opposite it known as "The Rockery". It had lots of interesting trees, a waterfall, flowers and some cool looking rocks in it!

Hey! At the weekend my sister got married!!!! I travelled up for the day, and got there with minutes to spare as one train was cancelled and the next one was delayed! I got to the registry office just as the bridal car pulled in - oops! It was a very hot day! I have some photos from the day to share with you all :) *I have permission to share these*

I couldn't take many during the ceromony, as I was sitting near the back and my phone needed charging! When it got to signing the register bit no one is allowed to take photos (no idea why!) and once they'd done that they gave them a fake register with a pen which had no ink in for them to pose with so people could take photos - that bit made no sense to me!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/19756650_10159284544420347_4831471938934982601_n.j pg?oh=d0faa39d6c8cc5f7ce6f065c4832f4a0&oe=59C9C6B7

Afterwards we all went into the garden of the registry office for some photos. We all got to throw confetti over the bride and groom (at which point I made a joke about having always wanted to throw things at my sister!)

Here is my sister, her new husband and his family with their flower girl and bridesmaid - I took a couple like this before realizing I couldn't see the people at the back. But when I moved so I could the sun got in the way!!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/19732281_10159284545250347_3151161920896577949_n.j pg?oh=12ec1f0112eca88628888ce37145f115&oe=59C5D29A

This was my sister's flowers. Even though they were not real I still tried smelling them ...

The bride and groom (this is probably my favorite photo from all the ones I took!)

Here they are by the car before going to the recpetion
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/19748744_10159284549335347_3405149355525902044_n.j pg?oh=a91a165ab7c224525d1b755c85bbb0e5&oe=5A0E1207

Once we got to the recpetion I managed to charge my phone! I took a photo of their wedding cake - it looks green due to the lighting!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/19748385_10159285115150347_8662673706849210800_n.j pg?oh=e5c780de22431010cf2a39a066267748&oe=5A09FC92

I didn't get many others at the reception. It wasn't a "normal" recetion with speeches and stuff. It was a buffet in the back room of a pub, and they also had very loud music and these kind of disco light things. As I don't get on too well with lots of noise and it was very hot, I sat outside (most of the guests did) and chatted to a couple of people. I made two new friends which was nice :) It was a lovely day and I didn't get home until almost midnight!!!!

Hey! I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine! The weather here has been crazy - we had almost 2 weeks of rain, but it brightened up last Thursday and as been sunny and hot ever since.
At the weekend we had our Pride festival (it's no longer called "Gay Pride" as it is inclusive of EVERYBODY, whether striaght or part of the LGBTQ+ community). Brighton has the UK's biggest Pride festival, and as usual the city was heaving with people for the entire weekend. I only took a couple of photos during the parade on Saturday, as I ended up filming it all. But I did get some other photos over the weekend that I would like to share too. This year was bigger than ever, mainly because we were celebrating 50 years since being gay was decriminalised, so of course it was a very special event.

Firstly, a couple from the parade

We were watching the parade from a bus stop, which had been painted especially for Pride!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20622278_10159520242675347_9107231543164902891_n.j pg?oh=f3b9fb7d3ea93f71a09954fd0a6cf907&oe=5A25AD50

After the parade it rained for a whole 5 minutes before the sun came back out. However, rain would not have stopped the celebrations! My housemate and I were then going to go to the after party in one of the parks, but she had run off with her friend, so I spent an hour or so getting some lunch and then walking around the shopping mall. I then popped home to charge my phone, before going out again.
In some of the more local parks there were lots of free events happening across the entire weekend. On Friday evening there was a huge S-Club party, however we missed this as we didn't know what time it was supposed to start! On Saturday I went to one of the parks and had a couple of drinks and listened to the music. I didn't venture to the back of the park (over 18's only) until the Sunday evening when there was cabaret and a disco. The whole weekend ended with fireworks that we watched from the pier, but they were set off from a boat in the middle of the sea!! I have some photos from the park taken on Saturday and Sunday, as well as some of the cabaret, disco and fireworks for you all.

First off, the fountain in the park. I took several photos of it, mainly as I have never taken photos of it before! LOL

Next, there was a giant deckchair just inside the entrance of the park. I have included the photo of me that someone else took, to show you how big it is (I was't quite ready when they took the photo, which is why my arms are like that!)

Sorry for posting the rest of these so late, my appointments took longer than planned!

Next, we have some photos from the cabaret. It was such good fun!
This lady was called Miss Kimberley. She is from America, and so so funnny! She sang some songs, and got right up into the crowd. Because of the lighting, and the fact I was zoomed in, the photos aren't great
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20638315_10159520249855347_2568518812391470197_n.j pg?oh=ed08fc576ab35d8502a24f25387e6601&oe=5A34DD32

Next we had my favorite act of the night. They were called "The Sex Shells", and did some great songs. Some of the songs were based on songs from Abba, but they changed some of the words slightly. The women in their group plays the keyboard and calls herself "That women Rosie", and she sang a couple of songs too

The weekend ended with some fireworks. The leaflet said the fireworks were "near the pier" so we stood on the pier. In actual fact the fireworks were let off a boat in the middle of the sea!!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20622156_10159520305525347_500866091155916069_n.jp g?oh=41744d97ff960ddcce3127783ea06feb&oe=59F8D66B

And finally, this was quite interesting. I took this mainly because I wanted the lights next to the Pride flags on the pier, but I noticed the words were reflected! No idea what on, as above them is nothing but sky, but thought I'd show you anyhow!

Today I saw my sister, her husband and their friends. They all came down here for the day so I went to meet them. We walked along the seafront and the pier, and then they all went paddling in the (freezing!) sea whilst I sat and guarded the stuff! Here are a few pictures. It was a funny day in terms of the weather. One minute hot and sunny with blue sky, the next cold and gray and very windy! By the time they went into the sea it was SO windy that I thought I'd get blown away!! Anyway, here are some photos for you all ...

So whilst I was waiting for them to find a parking space I saw this funny guy by the pier. There are lots of characters there but this one amazes me because I can never work out how on earth he is floating!!!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20882336_10159594235880347_8054634558109432810_n.j pg?oh=03f043f635fef07ec124fb74a289b351&oe=5A3681BF

We also met Darth Vadar ...
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20993020_10159596028380347_3305231340748643850_n.j pg?oh=b47275028461c84ec3b7bf921a01110c&oe=5A332861

And Pikachu! Me and my sister had our picture taken with Pikachu and he kept going "Pikaaaaaa" really loudly in my ear!!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20882694_10159596029875347_8817048162549310748_n.j pg?oh=88e124ce39f51963b1aa8724415b78d3&oe=5A1A86CC

Then we saw this guy with his sand sculptures. The only reason I took a picture was because our beach doesn't have sand so it was a little odd to see!
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20992829_10159596030065347_6900395931047798694_n.j pg?oh=e27ad39a01c9fb9746f8da81eb583a1a&oe=5A167107

Here was another funny guy. Actually, he was scary! He sat very still until you went near and then he moved and scared the life out of me! The second guy wasn't actually real. I touched it and it felt like maybe it was made out of paper or something!

And finally, they parked their car near this statue. I've never actually walked that far up from the pier before (ok, it wasn't that far!) so it was nice to see it :)

It looked like you had lots of fun in those pics. Congrats to your sister and her husband on being newlyweds! Lovely photos of the couple and the wedding cake. I thought it was quite interesting and nice to have a combo cake where the lovely bride's dress flows into the groom's preferred Batman suit. That was a lovely touch and creative, too.

They have these all the way around London. My theory is that there is a pole or something which attaches to the staff and goes up the sleeve. It then goes down into the robe and attaches to something which the guy is standing on.

08-22-2017, 11:14 AM
AprilPearl, I had the same thought when I saw it earlier. There is also a covered, weighted base at the bottom of the staff to help balance out the weight of the cantilevering arm, Yoda, and standing platform. If not, this wouldn't be possible.

Hey guys!
Can you believe it's Septemeber already?! I have some photos for you all. These are from the August Bank Holiday weekend. My brother and his family came down to see me. Surprizingly it was a very hot and sunny day - I say surprizingly because most of the time it rains on a Bank Holiday!
My brother and his family arrived around 11:30am, and I popped to the supermarket to get some medicine - I was sick - whilst they went to this car boot sale in the car park where their car was. Then we went for some lunch, and went bowling. I am so incredibly bad at bowling, and my 4 year old niece even beat me! LOL I don't really have photos from the lunch or bowling, but I do from after.
After bowling we went for a walk along the Marina, and discovered they do these "pleasure trip" boat rides. I'm not the biggest fan of boats, but the sea looked calm so we decided to give it a go. All these photos were taken from the boat.

I've told you guys about the old West Pier before that burnt down. The boat went round the back of it, so got this photo. It was lovely seeing it from the back!

What lovely pics of your outing with family. It sounds like you had such a lovely time, and I'm glad that the rain didn't ruin your boating experience. I do love a nice boat ride (especially a speedboat) and also noticed the jet skis (which I TOTALLY love riding, btw) zooming by. I personally think seagulls are quite pretty and fun little birds, sorry Thin Lizzy. I have fond memories of tossing bread chunks in the sky and grinning as the sea gulls came nosediving in to gobble them up before swooping back high into the sky.

It's been ages since I took any photos - mainly because of the heatwave we've had! It's been so hot here, and other than a two minute downpour earlier today, we've had no rain for a few months!! However I do have a couple of photos to share with you - and one is a seagull

This is Jeff. He lives on the roof of one of the nearby houses, but has been in our garden a lot lately - possibly because I've been leaving water out for all the birds! He followed me to the store the other day, and was a little miffed that I had no food for him when I came back out the store! :D As usual I stopped to play him some music (because I have a super weird habit of playing music to animals ...) though I don't think he appreciated it much!
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/37404743_10161504376060347_8315351122244009984_n.j pg?_nc_cat=0&oh=7719051cde5bb411a3603b3070253f5d&oe=5C121066

I also saw this police car. Our city is getting ready for Pride - which is next weekend. Pride in this city is not just a day event, but an entire weekend, starting on Friday evening and ending on Sunday evening - though there are also a few extra events in the weeks leading up to it! It's big, colorful and loud!
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/37132285_10161479918955347_8285117816655314944_n.j pg?_nc_cat=0&oh=f22f683d77083e41fa6214295a961e94&oe=5BDCE8D5

I plan to take lots of photos at Pride next weekend, so will hopefully have lots to show you, but this year I'm both super excited and nervous. The company who owns my housing has a float each year, and this year I'm going to be on it!! Although Pride lasts a whole weekend, the main event is on the Saturday. There's a parade that starts around 11am, and then a huge party in the park where the parade ends. This year there's a new event happening on the Sunday in the same park - this is more of a family friendly event, although the Saturday events are mostly family friendly too.

Today there was a random two minute downpour of rain. I took this from the living room window - I had to stick my hand and phone out the window to take it, as I didn't want to go outside and get wet! I was trying to photograph the rain, but instead got the wet path! It's the first rain we've had for months! We've not even had the promised thunder storms!

Hi there pinkneon, good to see you posting and some photos too. Jeff looks in good form and I am glad he is not one of those gulls that have been getting sunburn!
Had some thunder and lightning here earlier this evening with some rain at last. Not enough so maybe there is more to come.
Looks to be nice again for next weekend. What fun that you are on a float! Get some good photos and let us see how it all went.

lol Pink, naming a seagull is so you. Jeff doesn't look scary considering I'm not a fan of seagulls. Good on you giving them water.
Yesterday, there was a few seagulls & pigeons taking cover in the shade under some trees, usually they're flying and squawking.
We've had Pride which always goes brilliantly!
Great pics and glad you got some rain.

I truly love that you named the pretty seagull. Jeff certainly seems like quite the character; I'm glad that he decided to keep you company as went to the store. It is great that you are giving the birds water so they can keep hydrated and get a lovely bath to help relieve them of some of the heat. You really are very kind.

I'm glad that you finally got the much needed rain; hopefully, you will get more of it and the heat will subside. Have fun on the float during Pride week.

Great pics as always! :)

Hey all! Unfortunately I didn't get any photos during Pride back in August! I was there super early to help decorate the bus and then when we finally took off at 11am it was already 30 degrees! It just got hotter and hotter, and I spent most of the journey drinking water! I did, however, feel like I knew how the Queen feels having to wave to complete strangers! :D
However, Thursday was my birthday! I can't believe I am now officially a proper adult (as supposed to a young adult!) as I now am 30!!!!!! For my birthday my friend and I went to the Warner Bros Studios - where they made the Harry Potter movies! It was an incredible experience, and this time of year it's all Christmassy, so even more magical. I took over 270 photos, so obvious reasons can't share them all with you! Plus, I don't want to spoil too much for anyone who hasn't been but is planning to go (I highly recommend it!) I went all dressed up, in my Hufflepuff robes, and took my wand with me. My friend made me wear some stupid birthday badges, and then I was given an extra one when I got there! The staff were so friendly, but I found it embarrassing having people say Happy Birthday all day!

So, the tour starts in the Great Hall. The lady told us that the food used to be real, until it started smelling bad under the studio lights so they made it all out of resin. The "ice" sculpture in the middle was built using the Brighton Pavilion as inspiration - which I recognized immediately! As it was my birthday, I got to open the doors to the Great Hall, which was both fun and embarrassing! This picture only shows part of the Great Hall, which is one of the largest sets they have. I'm not sure what would be there when it's not Christmas time, but I do intend to go back at another time of year to find out!

It looks even more exciting seeing the pictures on a bigger screen instead of my phone :D I think I would be embarrassed too if people were wishing me a happy birthday and having me open the doors to the great hall though it would have been a great experience to get to do that :)
