Hey everyone,
my hamster, Berta, has been scratching herself a lot lately. She had diarrhea last week, and I got something from the vet to cure it, and it's 95% gone now
(her feces are still a bit moist). She sleeps more, than she used to, and not in her little house anymore, so i think she has heat stress, since my room becomes quite hot in the morning. But the point is, that she's scratching herself, and it's with her backlegs, so she's not cleaning herself. I checked her fur, and in some places it's a bit red, and in other places it's white, and there is small black dots on her skin (not everywhere but more like some here and there). I don't know if it's mites or what color her skin should be. Please help:-k.

Hi, I'm afraid I don't know about mites but thought I'd bump you up the forum. If your room is hot though, a ceramic mug or tile in the cage gives your hamster something cool to lie in/on.

Good advice about using a mug or tile to help keep your ham cool, if it's really hot you can put them in the fridge for a while first.
What substrate are you using? It's worth considering if there could be anything in the cage that could cause irritation/scratching or allergy.
If she's recently been to the vet for treatment it would probably be best to take her back for a check if you are worried, they would be able to advise you if it is mites or if not what else it may be & treat her for you.
