View Full Version : Eye Stye in Syrian Hamster

I've just adopted my Syrian from someone. He's at least 1.5 years old.
I noticed he has a small lump/stye-like thing above his left eye.
The previous owner told me it's been there for a while, and from old pictures of him it doesn't seem to have grown. It is not weeping or bothering him, so I'm not rushing to the vet just yet.

I've only read about styes on dwarf hamsters; does anyone have experience with those on Syrians?

Thank you!

(The forum doesn't allow me to post pictures just yet, for some reason. I can supply a few later.)

It looks like he has had a little infection and it has caused the hair follicle to fill up - it is likely fine now and if it isn't bothering him I'd keep a close eye on it and see the vet if it get bigger or causes a discharge or red swollen eyes. It should be treatable with drops

Thank you souffle.
Looks like I'll schedule him to get looked at by a vet - he's also showing a lump on his testicle area (not sure if it's just descended testicle or something else). Will update the thread when we find out more.

This thread can be closed now.
The eye stye resolved itself somehow and the ham is doing very well :)
