Can't come out and play, washing my hair...

Smokey is getting up later and later with the light evenings - well, that wouldn't be so bad, if she didn't have such a long routine to go through once she's got out of bed!

First she has to walk all round her cage stretching. Then she has a pee in her sand bath - and this can't be rushed, she has to find just the right spot. This is followed by a little scrabble in the end she didn't pee in, and then more stretching.

And then - the washing begins! This can take quite a while...I do love watching her 'getting ready to go out' routine, but it can be frustrating when it's getting closer and closer to my bedtime :? !

I wouldn't mind, but it's not like she's getting ready to go anywhere special - and she often ends up looking scruffier than when she started...

She sounds a bit like my Mickle with her long routine, she really doesn't want to be bothered before she's ready either! A girl has to take her time I guess :)

lol yep a girl has to do her thing! You might try gentle waking with a treat just a little earlier each day until her routine shifts. She clearly wont be rushed though so take it slow, and let her have her routine after she gets up.

Try waking her up earlier so you can spend time with her and sticking to it will get her used to it.

It sounds like she's been ordering a few cosmetics from the Hamster Resistence Network catalogue! Of course she needs to put on her makeup and do her nails before heading out in the world. That's without the hamgel she puts in her hair! LOL!

cypher she's definitely going for the tousled look! And it's good to know she's not the only hamster that talks a while to get ready to play!

Piebald I did interrupt her routine the other evening - well, she'd had a long wash, then got a bit distracted because we had a hailstorm and she could hear it, so she started washing all over again! It was so close to my bedtime, I picked her up mid-wash - I have never seen a small animal look so miffed...! I won't be trying to rush her again, but I think I will try and persuade her to get started earlier.

Thin Lizzy yes I think she does like to have everything just so! She does like her time out of the cage, she tends to make a fuss if she thinks she's been short changed, so I'll have to try and get her going earlier so she gets her full time.

Purdy Bear I know that Smokey has been reading all about the Hamster Resistance Network with great interest so it wouldn't surprise me if she'd ordered a few things - especially the hamgel, it does look like she's been putting it to good use!

Ha ha I must say Shannonmcn that it takes Smokey longer to get ready to go out than it takes me to get ready for work! :) There was definitely no rushing her last night - I did try coaxing her out a little earlier, but she was having none of it - she kept poking her head out of her nest and giving me funny looks, then going back to bed!
