I have caught the hamster bug ... Browsing Gumtree and came across two Russian dwarfs for sale in a rubbish, tiny cage with no substrate or bedding. I have a spare cage in the garage and so many spare toys. Couldn't resist - short story is they are coming home with me tomorrow :D

Three hamsters ... Am I crazy?!

I think they are both boys. I'm planning Keith and Ronald at the moment (family names!)

Dwarfs are new to me so I need to get reading up on their needs...

Congrats on your new additions :) Great names! Can't wait to see pics of the little ones :) Good on your for giving them a great home, they clearly needed one from the sound of their old place!

I started off with one and now have five because I couldn't stand to leave the gorgeous little things in the P@H adoption center, it's how it begins and soon the house is full lol.

I will put some pics up when they're settled in. Still need to put some pictures of poor Bobba on here!

Just purchased two 6.5 inch silent spinners - couldn't believe the price! I will end up bankrupt, I swear.

I salute you for taking these two in, well done. Don`t worry about going bankrupt! Just in case you havn`t read this before, but a pair should ideally be in a single storey cage with lots to do, but your probably already clued up already! x

So Keith and Ronald arrived tonight and are safe and sound in their new home. Being used to Syrians I am still in shock at how teeny they are, particularly little Ronald! They've enjoyed a sand bath and chowing down on some millet.

At the minute they are in Bobba's old two-storey gerbilarium which is not ideal but is spacious. It's this, but I have covered the bars with cardboard:

I'm planning on updating to a ZZ2 or an aquarium type set up.

Any tips on settling them in? I'm planning on leaving them for a couple of days before I see if they will take a treat from me - they seem quite tame. Anyway, here a couple of bad quality phone pics of the chaps - I'll try to get some better ones in time.

They're gorgeous! It's so sweet seeing them together :) I think you're doing the right thing with settling them in, they seem happy enough with that millet :)

Awww! They look really sweet :)
Leaving them for a day or two should be enough to let them settle, I'd put some tissue in there that's been up your sleeve for a while just so they get used to you, I talk to mine a lot & they usually settle in pretty quick.
Taming isn't really that different to syrians but being a pair I would keep them together when you get them out.
Look forward to seeing more of them :)

Keith has had a name change and is now Donald : ) They are settling in well. Both have taken a treat from me no problem and I'm going to try them in the (dry!) bath tub tonight, letting them climb on me. I'm just trying to sort out the best cage for them now. Here a couple of new pics:

The little one is Ronald. He's by far the smaller of the two but he's very inquisitive. I don't want to tempt fate by saying this but they get on so well together :) They follow each other around the cage and always sleep together. One was in the food bowl the other night and the other just sat waiting patiently until he'd finished. They're so lovely!

I like their names Donald & Ronald. So glad you changed from Keith.
Ronald & Donald has a nice vibe and it really suits them!
