I'm fairly sure my hamster is in heat, her tail is stuck up and she smells quite strongly! ( even worse since she rolled around in her own pee! ) Are there any other symptoms to a hamster in heat or are these just it?

My little Syrian, Mabel, definitely stinks when she's in heat! Makes her cage smell like a petting zoo...

As far as other symptoms go, she may also freeze in place and stick her tail/butt in the air if you pet her backside. Also good to remember that females go into heat every 3-4 days!

The smell and the tail are usually the two most noticeable indicators that a female Syrian is in heat. Some also exhibit behavioral changes - more energetic than usual, grumpier, more cuddly, etc. If you have a male hamster nearby she may try to "talk" to him through squeaks.

My girl seems to have mood swings when she's in heat. She'll go from frantically running around trying to chew on everything to falling asleep on me in a matter of minutes. She also thoroughly scent marks a particular corner in her tank - this usually involves rubbing her hips against the glass, and rolling around on her back like a dog.

Sometimes Twinkle can smell all right but sometimes it can be a fishy smell or a cornef beef smell. lol!
