View Full Version : Change in sleeping habits?

Moonstone is a 1 1/2 year old female Syrian hamster.

Since I've owned her Moonstone has slept until around 4-5pm and then spent all night (I assume) running around and playing - by any means she was always asleep when I woke up at 6-7am.

But now (with no change to her environment - unless she can sense that my baby is due any day now) she is sleeping well into the night. She's also getting up a lot during the day for a wonder or a drink, but largely she is just laying in her nest (sometimes awake, sometimes asleep), just not doing much.

She is still running around and playing and I'm still getting her out and letting her have her "Mummy and Moonstone" time, but she's not running in her wheel or playing in her cage until much later than normal. Some nights I'm not able to get her out for "Mummy and Moonstone" time as I've already fallen asleep by the time she's got out of bed and of course I will never wake her up just to play as that's not fair on her.

She appears to be eating normally (unless she's hoarding it all somewhere I've not found yet), but she does appear to be drinking more than normal. Should I be more worried than I am or am I worrying about nothing?

as long as she is still eating/drinking, happy and healthy there isn't really any thing to worry about, it could be as simple as we are in the winter now, just make sure her cage stays nice and warm as you don't want her to hibernate,

If you haven't already, you might want to schedule a 'noisy feeding time' before you go to bed, to get her curious and out and about to see what the food delivery is all about? Even then though, if year old Ziggy doesn't want to be bothered he will stumble over to the food, pick out some choice bits and go back to bed, lol......
