i give my syrian a bowl of food in his cage, he packs it in his cheeks and moves it around the cage, but i dont know if he is actually eating it?:( when i clean out his cage i find it everywhere and it doesnt look like hes even eating it. i might just be overly worried because he is my baby. help::((

Hamsters store their food, usually hide it in places that are safer instead of it being left in the open, natural instinct for them as a prey animal.

I still have food left over when I feed my hamsters, a lot is not eaten and some will be picky about what they eat. They are only quite small so don't eat a lot anyway.

If I were you I wouldn't worry about it unless you see a drop in his weight.

Give him about 2 teaspoons everyday and top it up when it gets empty. That should be enough. The PDSA guidelines suggest 10 grams twice a day if that helps.

It is hard to tell just how much they eat, it's easier to weigh them regularly, I do mine weekly, & keep a check on them that way.
I think most people give about a tablespoon of mix a day, just remember not to take all the stash away when you clean the cage or he'll hoard even more!

About 10 grams of hamster food everyday, but they might not need that daily depending on what they leave in their bowl.

Try giving him small pieces of fresh fruit or veggies everyday, I find with mine that they always eat the fresh stuff right away instead of storing, Also you can get some treat bars for their immune system in pet stores which provides lots of nutrients.

Also chicken is a favourite too!
