View Full Version : Expanding my Genus 200?

I've currently got a Genus 200 cage, which my hamster has always been fine on. But after reading a lot of info on cages on here, I'm realising that it's probably too small for my syrian. So i'm thinking of expanding/getting new cage.

The top one is the cage he's in now, and he loves the tubes. The older style Rotastak is one I got free from Freecycle a while back and have never used apart from letting him run about in it now and again.

I was thinking of connecting them with tubes, but my tubes from the old style are different from the tubes on the Genus, so I'd have to tape them together or something. Or maybe I'm not using the right connectors, any ideas?

Or should I just get a new cage altogether.. ideally something with lots of tubes with neither the Alexander or Alaska have..?

How old is he Becky? If he is and always has been content in his cage I would be reluctant to change anything. Cage changes can be stressful. You could add in the Triangular rotastack pod as these are actually quite roomy as an add on but I would advise against the circular one certainly not with the tiny sleeping pod which is way to stuffy for a hamster to sleep in and easy to push off and escape from.
If you do decide to add the triangular one then ensure the connections are very secure and duck tape them in necessary as you don't want his escaping.

He's just under a year old. The pod at the top of the circular one is unreachable for him really, he's a bit of a scaredy cat to be honest. When I put him in it he just walks around in circles.

Thanks for your advice :)

I'm not sure if the tubes are the same size as the other wider rotastak tubes. If they are, there is a spaghetti junction kit from rotastak which has a mixture of the smaller tubes like the pod and wider curve tubes. They join together with a narrow tube, which on one end has a wider lip for the wider tubes. It's a bit hard to explain! If you can find somewhere that sells them, they might let you try and see if they fit.

Just looked on google and found a couple of images of the genus and spaghetti junction joined :)
